Stalemate against Indonesia

The young Tigresses team played its first match in the qualifiers against Indonesia on Wednesday. The match ended in a goalless draw, putting a stamp on India’s defensive capabilities but raising doubts over the goalscoring prowess.

The first match was a case of missed opportunities and close calls. The young tigresses created chances but did not have enough fire in the belly to bury them. This must be rectified in the second game, as without being clinical, India won’t be able to exploit Turkmenistan’s relatively weaker defence that conceded six goals against Myanmar.

This is a quick turnaround for the young tigresses with only a day’s break between the first and second games. This poses another challenge, as Coach Joakim Alexandersson would have just focused on giving his players enough rest rather than working on loopholes that were left open in the first game against Indonesia.

Should the young tigresses register a win in this encounter, they will face Myanmar in their last qualifying fixture, which might also be the decider to finalise who will top Group D.
