India on top after victory against Mongolia in AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers Group B standings

India are at the top of the table after Matchday 1.

The Indian Women’s football team have begun their journey on a positive note as they played their first game in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers tournament and thrashed Mongolia in a 13-0 victory. They are placed alongside Iraq, Timor Leste, Thailand and Mongolia in group B.

India secured an incredible 13-0 victory over Mongolia in their opening Group B fixture. Pyari Xaxa led the scoring with an outstanding five-goal performance. Soumya Guguloth and Priyadarshini each scored two goals while Sangita Basfore, Rimpa Haldar, Malavika, and Grace Dangmei added one goal, rounding the game off with a dominant display of potential.

This was the Blue Tigresses’ biggest ever win in an AFC Women’s Asian Cup, including the final round and qualifiers. Previously, their victories of 10-0 against Guam in 1997 and 2005 held the record for the biggest ever win.

AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers Group B Points Table

India sit comfortably at the top of Group B after opening their campaign with a dominating 13-0 victory against Mongolia. The Blue Tigresses’ performance showed attacking skills and clinical finishing, securing all three points and an impressive goal difference in the match.

The clash between Iraq and Timor-Leste ended in a goalless draw, with both teams earning a single point. As a result, Iraq are placed second and Timor-Leste third on the table, separated only by alphabetical order and goal difference.

Thailand, who are not only the hosts but also one of the group’s strongest sides, are currently placed fourth. Having not played a match yet, they will enter the competition with pressure to climb quickly, especially with India already establishing an early lead.

Following their heavy defeat to India, Mongolia find themselves at the bottom of the group with zero points and a significant negative goal difference. Their chances of bouncing back will depend on their performances in the remaining fixtures.

How can Team India qualify for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup?

The Blue Tigresses kicked off their campaign with an important win and a healthy goal difference. This result sets the tone for the rest of their group stage. However, the structure of the tournament means there’s no space for mistakes.

Only the team which finishes at the top of the table will be able to move forward there by making every match from here on out a must-win for India. A strong start in the tournament is promising, but the Blue Tigresses will have to maintain their momentum to win this journey

Under head coach Crispin Chhetri, the Indian women’s team have begun their AFC qualification campaign on the right note with a solid win against Mongolia. But the journey ahead is packed with immense pressure. India must now defeat lower-ranked sides like Iraq and Timor-Leste, and then take on the hosts, Thailand, who are ranked higher.

The Blue Tigresses, under the guidance of Crispin Chettri, would want to become the first Indian squad to qualify for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup through the qualifiers route, and hence, the Team will have to bring their A-game to win this campaign
