AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026: Updated points table, most goals after Vietnam vs India

The Blue Tigresses suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss against Vietnam in AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

A brace from the Vietnamese forward Thị Vạn Sự Ngân meant that the Indian Women’s Football Team had to succumb to a heartbreaking last-minute loss against Vietnam Women’s Football Team on the 4th of March 2026, at the Perth Rectangular Stadium, as the two teams faced each other in the first match of the Group C fixtures of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026.

The match started at a quick tempo, with both teams making end-to-end moves to find the opener of the match. In the 30th minute, Thị Vạn Sự Ngân broke the deadlock of the game, curling the ball into the top corner to provide Vietnam with the advantage. Later, even though India made efforts to bring the scores back to parity, the opponent’s defensive unit did well.

Very early into the second half, Vietnam scored their second goal of the match, which, however, was disallowed due to an offside offence. Just minutes later, India found the much-needed equaliser of the match, courtesy of Sanfida Nongrum, who struck the ball over the keeper in a counterattack.

Later, despite numerous attempts from either side to score yet another goal, all their efforts went to vain, until Thị Vạn Sự Ngân yet again found the back of the net in the dying minutes of the stoppage time, delivering a late win for Vietnam.
