AIFF modifies RFP terms, revises bid deadlines and evaluation structure

AIFF could not attract any bids for commercial rights.

Indian football suffered a major blow as AIFF failed to attract any bids for the monetisation of the commercial rights of the Indian Super League (ISL). Justice (Retd) L. Nageswara Rao will submit his report to the Supreme Court following the closure of the tender.

The federation convened a meeting on November 9 to review and discuss the status of the “Request for Proposal (RFP) for awarding the right to monetise the commercial rights of the ISL belonging to the All India Football Federation.

No takers for Indian Football

Indian Super League ISL

Indian football is facing an existential threat as clubs shut down and the federation fails to find any commercial partner for the top division, the Indian Super League. The federation released the Request for Proposal (RFP) last month but failed to find any bidders.

There were a few interested parties, but the interest could not materialise into a bid. The failure to attract a bid has pushed back the resumption of the Indian Super League season, putting the future of ISL clubs into jeopardy.

I-League also under threat

Not only do the Indian Super League clubs lack a roadmap to look forward to, but the I-League clubs also do. The federation has failed to clear the chaos surrounding the first division. But the inability to do so with the I-League raises serious questions about the competence of the federation.

The I-League comes under direct control of the federation, and it has been conducting the second division. However, this season, there has been no competitive football for the I-League clubs besides the Durand Cup and Super Cup.

When will the Indian Super League resume?

There is no definite answer to this question, as the federation has not yet locked in the commercial partners.

What will be the next course of action for AIFF?

The federation might come up with a new tender.
