Bengaluru FC issue club statement after firecracker attack on fans during ISL Final 2024-25

Indian Super League (ISL) club Bengaluru FC have issued a club statement condemning the disturbing incident that marred the 2025 Indian Super League (ISL) Final game between the club and Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the VYBK Stadium in Kolkata. While describing the whole incident as a “reckless and cowardly attack” on its travelling supporters, the Blues have lodged formal complaints with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Footballl Sports Development Limited (FSDL).
The public statement following the match against Mohun Bagan Super Giant revealed that a live firecracker was hurled into the Bengaluru FC fan section by a section of the Mohun Bagan home fans.
The attack happened during the highly anticipated championship clash rained on what was supposed to be a night of celebration for Indian football.
Multiple fans were injured, burnt and bruised
According to the club statement, the explosive device caused multiple injuries, including serious harm to one BFC supporter whose eye required medical treatment at the hospital. The victims of the cowardly attack also included Bengaluru FC owner Parth Jindal, who got caught up in the chaos of the incident.
The statement read, “The incident resulted in a BFC supporter sustaining an injury to the eye that required treatment, while other supporters, including club owner Parth Jindal, suffered burns and bruises.”
A formal complaint from Bengaluru FC against future incidents
The Blues’ lodging of a formal complaint with the AIFF and the FSDL, who jointly run the ISL, signifies a statement of their serious intent. Bengaluru FC emphasized that they will be working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure everything is thoroughly investigated and appropriate actions are taken.
The club also shared that their objective is to establish a clear precedent that ensures this incident doesn’t happen again to any Indian football fan. The statement read, “The club has lodged a formal complaint with the AIFF and the FSDL and is working closely with the Federation and the League to ensure that the incident is addressed and dealt with in a manner that sets a precedent for fan safety norms in stadiums.”
Bengaluru FC also issued a strong reminder about the values within the game of football, while stressing that acts of violence have no place in the sport. The club statement read, “Such actions not only endanger lives but go against the very spirit of our beautiful game. Stadiums should be a safe space – now and always. Such acts have no place in football, or anywhere.”
As a tournament, the ISL has played a pivotal role in the growth of Indian football. However, the incident now brings attention to the growing calls to improve fan conduct and tighten stadium security. With the formal complaint now lodged and investigations taking natural course, fans and clubs will be watching closely on how the league responds to this new challenge.
