Calicut FC go down against Thrissur Magic, conceding their first-ever defeat at home in Super League Kerala

Thrissur Magic FC are the only team to clinch a win against Calicut in the Super League Kerala.
Thrissur Magic FC weaved a thrilling 0-1 victory against the defending champions Calicut FC in the second matchday of the second round fixtures of the Super League Kerala on the 11th of October at the EMS Corporation Stadium, Kozhikode.
In the first half, after desperate attempts to open the goal scoring tally, Thrissur finally broke the deadlock courtesy of their Brazilian captain Mailson Alves, who headed in a corner to provide his side the advantage. Later, Calicut tried to find the equalizer, but Thrissur went all out defensively to clinch a historic win, breaking the seven-game unbeaten run of Calicut FC at their fortress in Super League Kerala.
Mailson Alves heads Thrissur to lead

Calicut FC initiated the proceedings, and both teams, with multiple experiments in the starting eleven, displayed a pacey, constant exchange of attacks. Calicut, with the support of their fans, were in the driver’s seat as they consistently piled pressure upon the Thrissur backline with some teasing crosses from both flanks.
On the other side of the pitch, Marcus tested the Calicut defence with his moves but had to ultimately succumb due to the lack of support. In the 36th minute, after desperately trying to create a mess in the offensive third, Thrissur won a corner, which later paved the way to be the difference maker between the sides.
Faiaz deployed a beautiful shot into the middle of the box, which went towards Mailson Alves, who was not properly marked by Richard Osei. Alves headed the ball inside the net, leaving the keeper just as a spectator to provide the lead for Calicut.
Just minutes later, Thrissur almost doubled their advantage with Francis Adoo’s stunning bicycle kick that came off a second ball from the corner. But to his dismay, Hajmal was alert after conceding, and the keeper somehow managed to keep the ball outside the goal. At the half-time interval, the score was in favour of the visitors.

Resilient Thrissur secure three points

The second half began with renewed intensity, with Calicut upping the ante. The hosts missed the opportunity to equalize by a whisker. Prashant made his way into the final third, deceiving the opposition defenders, before providing a precise pass to Sebastian Rincorn. The shot from Rincorn hit the post, providing Thrissur a lifeline.
The visitors bolstered their defense in the later phase of the game. Calicut failed to unlock Thrissur’s defense, spearheaded by Mailson Alves. The hosts were relentless with the attacks but lacked the sharpness in front of the goal.
Calicut tried all the permutations and combinations to somehow find the equaliser and grab at least a point, but the resilient Magicians ensured that they left Kozhikode with the last laugh, continuing their unbeaten run against the defending champions.
