India U23 vs Indonesia U23 Player Ratings: Suhail Bhat shines with brace, Ricky impactful in defense

India edged Indonesia 2-1 in an intense affair.

The Indian U23 team continued its good run after the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers with a gritty victory. The Blue Colts registered a 2-1 victory in Jakarta over the hosts, Indonesia. The second half saw both teams competing on an equal footing, but it was the first half that carried India across the finishing line.

Suhail Bhat was the star of the show for India U23 football Team. Both the goals that India scored came off Bhat’s boots. His brace was enough for the Blue Colts to register an impressive win. Naushad Moosa will look back at this game and take positives as he prepares his team for another friendly on October 13 against Indonesia.

In this article, we will rate the performance of the players who started the game for India.

K Mohanraj (7/10)

We saw a relatively new face in the goal for the Indian U23 team. In Sahil Poonia’s absence, K Mohanraj started for the Blue Colts and had an impressive game. He could not secure a clean sheet, but did not look out of place.

Muhammed Saheef (7.5/10)

In Pramveer’s absence, Saheef stepped up for the Blue Colts. He looked settled in the central defense. Saheef made some interesting passes, helping India move forward. His pairing with Dippendu Biswas worked for India; however, they lacked the resolve on some instances.

Dippendu Biswas (7/10)

The Mohun Bagan centre-back had a poor start to the match. He struggled with first touch and looked vulnerable under pressure. But Biswas grew in confidence as the game progressed and made a notable defensive contribution, holding the back line.

Ricky Meetei (8/10)

Ricky Meetei is the type of right back that the senior national team missed in the game against Singapore. The Bengaluru FC youngster contributed going forward, besides his impactful defensive output. His overlapping runs and crosses made India a threatening unit.

Harsh Palande (8/10)

Harsh Palande continued his form from the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers. He used his physicality to put the opposition players under pressure. Palande’s work rate was impressive and showed his skills driving forward as well.

Ayush Chhetri (6.5/10)

Can Ayush Chhetri be India's special weapon to stopping Hamza Choudhary threat in Bangladesh clash?

The Indian captain for the day had an underwhelming outing in the midfield. Ayush’s positioning in the game was off, and he struggled with his first touch. His work rate was another aspect that required improvement. There were some moments of brilliance, but on the whole, he would have wanted an improved outing.

Lalrinliana Hnamte (7.5/10)

Hnamte showed his maturity throughout the game. He conceded a yellow card in the seventh minute, but carried himself responsibly. Hnamte was the one who was shaping the momentum for the Blue Colts. From the deep midfield, Hnamte controlled the game.

Vibin Mohanan (6.5/10)

The hat-trick hero of the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, Vibin Mohanan, had a decent game in the midfield for India. He used his skills to make space with delicate half turns. But he lacked the sharpness on set pieces and crossing opportunities.

Muhammed Suhail (6.5/10)

Contrary to expectations, Muhammed Suhail started on the left wing. However, a change in position did not affect his game. The Kerala lad was electric on the left as he made some great runs in the first half and made life hell for the opposition right back.

His deliveries into the final third were on point. There were moments where his decision-making betrayed him, but playing as a left-winger, it was a learning curve for him.

Korou Singh (7/10)

Korou Singh was making a comeback into the team after a break and looked impressive on his return. He occupied the right wing for India and showed his brilliance, creating hurdles for the Indonesian defense to deal with.

Suhail Bhat (8.5/10)

My mentality is my biggest strength: India forward Suhail Bhat

Suhail Bhat stole the show in the first half itself. The Mariner was the man of the match for the Blue Colts. His goals made it clear that he was the biggest miss for the Indian U23 team in the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers. Both of his goals were a trademark No.9 finish, where he used his tenacity, precision, and venomous shooting skills.

Substitutions

Thoi Singh

Thoi Singh made some deceiving touches and pushed the opposition players to make fouls. However, on some occasions, his physicality put him at a disadvantage.

Bekey Oram

Bekey Oram was brought from the bench by Naushad Moosa but he could not create any impact as a substitute. Oram was invisible for most part of the game. Moosa wanted more from the Highlander, leading him to put him back on the bench.

Dipesh Chauhan

Dipesh replaced Mohanraj in the goal in the 67th minute of the game. He made some good collections, but a few of his decisions were dodgy, and that would put him under scrutiny.

Parthib Gogoi

The NorthEast United FC star did not start the game but came on as a substitute. Parthib Gogoi could not do anything that would grab the attention.

Mohammed Aimen

Another player who was brought in the later phase of the game who did not have enough time to make an impact.

Danny Meetei

Danny Meetei was introduced in place of another substitute, Bekey Oram. He showed intensity, putting his body on the line, and made his presence felt.

Suhail Bhat, India’s No.9, scored the goals for India.
