This clash marks India’s first fixture of the year, with their previous outing being two behind-closed-doors friendlies against Malaysia in March 2024. Led by head coach Naushad Moosa, the young Blue Colts have been training in Kolkata since the start of June before arriving in Tajikistan earlier this week.

The 23-member squad had a light mobility session on Tuesday morning and will hold a full training session in the evening, in preparation for what promises to be a challenging contest.

The Tajikistan U23 team, meanwhile, last played competitive matches in November 2024 and will be eager to bounce back from defeats to the UAE. Both teams are using this friendly as a vital warm-up for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers in September, where India will be aiming to qualify for the first time ever.
