Indian Women's football team drop four places in latest FIFA Rankings

The Blue Tigresses have slipped in the latest FIFA World Rankings.
The Indian Women’s football team has dropped down in the latest FIFA World rankings released on Thursday. The team has seen a disappointing drop after a six losses out of a total of 13 games in 2025. India has slipped from the 63th spot in the rankings to the 67th spot in the latest update released in December 2025.
The decline reflects a challenging year for Indian women, who are undergoing a tough period with victories coming much slower than earlier cycles. The team has also lost their last three games in the recently concluded Tri-Nation International Friendlies against Nepal and Iran.
The struggle to deliver consistent performances are now being reflected by the rankings and underlines some lingering issues within this iteration of the team against previous cycles.
Indian women football team underwent a mixed year of results

The team has been winless in the past few months, with their last win coming in July 2025 against Thailand in a 1-2 win during AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Since their victory over Thailand, they have three losses with struggles on the field evident for fans to witness during games.
The results have contributed to the team losing crucial FIFA ranking points, and causing them to fall below nations like Zambia, Ecuador and Morocco. A team in transition and struggling to adapt to the football that coach Crispin Chettri is trying to implement on the side.

Indian Women have a lot of work to do in upcoming games
Despite the world rankings setbacks, there is optimism about the future as the team has managed to qualify for the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup. Coach Crispin Chettri has an opportunity to help the team to realize the potential to rise significantly in the next batch of world rankings.
The Blue Tigresses will be kicking off their campaign with an opening game against Vietnam in Perth, Australia on March 4, 2026. The team have a challenging group with teams like Japan and Chinese Taipei who will be key games to ensure progression into the next stage.
It’s been more than two years since India’s FIFA ranking of 60th in June 2023. The nation has rarely breached the top 50 since the high moments of the early-2010s.
Coach Crispin Chettri will be hoping for a quick turnaround as all eyes will be on the team, with the men’s team not playing games in the near term. The job is going to challenging for the Indian Women to regain all those lost places, but a good 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup campaign will be a huge boost.
