Supercomputer predicts ISL 2023-24 final between Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC

Who will win the ISL 2023-24 final? Will the game be resolved in regulation time?

Mohun Bagan and Mumbai City FC are set to lock horns once again in a nail-biting, title-deciding game in the 2023-24 season of the Indian Super League. Following their sensational clash for the League Winners’ Shield, the outfits are set to exchange blows for the ISL Trophy on 4 May 2024 at the Salt Lake Stadium.

Predicting the winner of the upcoming final is a mighty difficult task, considering how evenly matched both teams are. Their journey to the ISL final has been entertaining and both sides are hitting form at the perfect time. However, Opta’s supercomputer has its say on which team will go on to win the 2023-24 ISL final.

The Prediction

The Opta supercomputer has given Mohun Bagan a 39.9% winning probability in regulation time. For Mumbai City FC, the supercomputer’s calculations stand at a 33.5% chance of winning the game in regulation period.

As it is a final that cannot end in a draw, extra-time and penalties will follow if there is nothing to separate the sides. The Opta supercomputer has kept that stipulation in mind too, giving a 26.6% chance that the 2023-24 ISL final will be decided by a penalty shootout following both teams being level at the end of the regulation period.

If that happens, it will be the third time in succession that the final of the Indian Super League playoffs is resolved after a penalty shootout. The 2021-22 and the 2022-23 finals of the ISL were decided on penalties.

If the predictions by the supercomputer are to be taken into consideration, then Mohun Bagan fans would be feeling confident about their team’s chances of defending their ISL crown.
