Bengaluru FC are showing early intent in righting the wrongs of last season and have secured the signing of goalkeeper Jaspreet Singh as a free agent from Namdhari FC on a multi-year deal. The 26-year-old goalkeeper had a stellar season, winning the Golden Glove in the I-League.

Having proven his skills in the I-League, Jaspreet Singh makes a significant move to the Indian Super League (ISL) which is the top tier in the area of Indian football. This move not only speaks about Jaspreet’s consistent performances but also reflects the role of Bengaluru FC in giving chances to players from the lower divisions.

A look at Jaspreet Singh’s career in the Indian Football setup

The goalkeeper began his journey at the Minerva Academy before signing for Punjab FC in the 2020–21 season. He then made a move to Sreenidi Deccan FC in 2022, which was followed by a loan spell at Namdhari FC until the end of the 2023–24 campaign. The following year, he signed with Namdhari FV as a free agent ahead of the 2024–25 season and capped off an incredible season by clinching the Golden Glove in the I-League.

Jaspreet Singh’s consistent performance between the goalposts earned him the Golden Glove award for the I-League 2024-25 season. He kept a total of 9 clean sheets in 17 games.

How will Jaspreet Singh fit into the Bengaluru FC system?

Last season, Bengaluru FC conceded more than just goals; they gave away confidence at the back. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, once the unquestioned guardian of the net, struggled with his form as he failed to keep a clean sheet for more than 11 games.

Bringing in a new goalkeeper like Jaspreet Singh might challenge Gurpreet Singh Sandhu for the starting role, or provide competition to motivate him and get the best out of him, or find a replacement for him.

Although Bengaluru FC have a backup in Lalthuammawia Ralte who has kept one clean sheet in two appearances this season , the need for a steady, reliable presence between the posts became urgent. Jaspreet Singh not only offers the much-needed stability but also has a hunger to prove himself and a proven record in the I-League. His arrival has happened at the perfect time for a club in transition.
