Mohun Bagan picked up a huge 4-0 win over Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium to stay alive in the Indian Super League (ISL) League Winners’ Shield race. Goals from Hector Yuste, Manvir Singh, Armando Sadiku, and Anirudh Thapa helped the Mariners to a massive win that sets up a ‘finale’ for the ISL Shield against Mumbai City on 15 April.

Manuel Cascallana praises Mohun Bagan’s effort

Mohun Bagan assistant coach Manuel Cascallana praised his side for perfectly implementing their plan against Bengaluru to get the big win. After the game, he stated, “Our plan was perfect. We needed to be calm in the first 20-25 minutes, as Bengaluru didn’t have anything to lose today as they were already out.

“So, we kept calm, took the lead, and in the second half we scored from the counter-attacks. The plan was perfect, with all the players and the substitutes. Now, it’s still in our hands and on Monday we need to go for the win.”

More praise for being at their clinical best

Manuel Cascallana also hailed his players for being more ruthless in this game after failing to convert chances properly against Punjab FC. He explained, “In the first half we couldn’t score our chances clearly, as we didn’t convert chances that well against Punjab in the last game, despite having clear-cut chances.

“But, that was different. We were clinical in the final third today and had a 4-0 lead within 65 minutes. That helped us control the game, keep the ball, and make substitutions to rest important players for the next game.”

Update on Antonio Habas

Manuel Cascallana also gave an update on the situation of Antonio Habas, who was absent from the dugout again as he recovers from an illness. The coach revealed, “It’s impossible to replace Habas. If you see him in Kolkata, be it his personality and his football knowledge. We miss him every day and every hour.

“But, as I said in the past, we cannot turn away as we are professionals and we must keep working. The good news is that he’s almost there (to recovery) and in a few days, maybe tomorrow or in two days, he’ll be there with the team. He might be on the bench for the Mumbai match.”

Feelings for Mumbai City match

Finally, the Mohun Bagan assistant coach Manuel Cascallana insisted that his side will fight for the win in the game against Mumbai and said, “We have played with the same pressure in the last few games. If we lost the other day against Punjab, we were out and if we lost today, we would’ve been out. Now, we have to win against Mumbai and the pressure is on both teams.

“They can draw or win to be the champions, but if we win we will win the shield title. It depends on us, we will go, we will prepare strongly for the game and try to get three points for our supporters,” Manuel Cascallana finished.
