East Bengal players started the game well but lost concentration.
Odisha FC and East Bengal played an entertaining Indian Super League (ISL) game at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar. The home side defeated the Red and Gold of Kolkata who continued their freefall in the ISL with six consecutive losses.
Roy Krishna opened the scoring for the Juggernauts while big-money signing Dimitrios Diamantakos opened his scoring for the first time in an East Bengal shirt to draw level right at the stroke of halftime.
The decisive moment of the game came when Mourtada Fall got to the end of one of the corners in the second half to seal the three points.
With that being said, here are the ratings from today’s game.
Odisha FC (by Rutvij Joshi)
Amrinder Singh – 6.5
Amrinder started with multiple saves and blocks in the first half. However, as the game passed by Odisha found their feet and recovered well defensively.
Unfortunately, for the goalkeeper, Odisha gave away the penalty in the last moment of the first half which Amrinder failed to save despite diving on the right side.
Amey Ranawade – 7
Amey was flying down the wing on the right side of Odisha exploiting the spaces in transitions during attacks, Defensively, the Mumbaikar was smart enough to make Nandha Kumar inefficient by putting constant pressure on him forcing him early in his short.
Thoiba Singh – 7
Thoiba complimented Mourtada Fall brilliantly and weathered the initial storm by East Bengal. Apart from the penalty conceded, Thoiba had not put a foot wrong in the game
Jerry Lalrinzuala -7.5
Jerry dealt smartly against Vishnu’s pace even though he was beaten for pace, he used all his experience and physicality as the game progressed.
Puitea – 6
Puitea did not have much to do but he did his job quietly without anyone noticing it.
Isak Ralte – 8.5
Isak Ralte was the man of the moment for the Juggernauts. The Mizo winger was a menace down the lift and troubled the defence with his line-breaking passes and his pace penetrating the defence.
Jerry Mawhimingthanga – 6
Most of the attacks for Odisha came from the left-hand side. Sergio Lobera’s men targeted Rakip with an overload. However, he created space for Amey on the right to run down.
Substitutions
Rahim Ali – 6
Rahim Ali came around an hour mark and made some daunting runs but couldn’t make the most of it despite EB being down to 10 men.
Rohit Kumar N/A
East Bengal (by Uttiyo Sarkar)
Prabhsukhan Gill – 6.0
Prabhsukhan was left helpless for both goals but did make a couple of sharp saves to keep his side in the game.
Mohammad Rakip – 5.5
Rakip was quite proactive on the right but had trouble keeping up with Isak. He made two tackles and won two duels, but was caught out of position at times.
Anwar Ali – 6.0
Anwar was arguably East Bengal’s best defender but felt like he was being held down by mistakes from those around him. Made a huge goal-saving block in the first half as well as seven clearances and four possession recoveries. Ousted by Fall for his goal.
Provat Lakra – 4.5
Lakra had a solid first half as he neutralized Jery Mawihmingthanga’s threat and was proactive on the left. But his aggressiveness ultimately cost him, as he picked up two yellow cards within seven minutes to get sent off for two rash tackles.
Jeakson Singh – 4.5
Jeakson didn’t look match sharp and failed to command the midfield battle. Couldn’t do anything about Odisha’s persistent moves through central areas, making zero tackles, one interception and winning zero duels.
PV Vishnu – 6.0
In his first ISL start, Vishnu was a livewire in the attack. He completed the most dribbles (two) and made some menacing runs into the box as well as creating a few chances. But his decision-making was a bit frustrating in some key moments, as he sought to make wrong passes at times.
Nandhakumar Sekar – 7.0
Nandha worked hard to get things done for East Bengal in the attacking front, creating two chances and getting the ball into some good areas. He also worked hard defensively, with two tackles and eight possession recoveries, but even he lacked that final third spark.
Substitutes
Lalchungnunga – 6.0
The defender came on for Vishnu and had an uneventful substitute outing in the backline
Sayan Banerjee – N/R
Couldn’t impact the game in his short cameo.
