Jose Molina weighs in on Mohun Bagan Super Giant's motivation to win 2024-25 ISL Final

The Mariners will be looking to secure a historic domestic double this season.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant and head coach Jose Molina will look to complete a perfect 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season when they face off against Bengaluru FC at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday (12 April, 2025). The Mariners are looking to become only the second team in ISL history to win the ISL double (shield and trophy), as well as avoid a repeat of their loss in the ISL final last season.
Ahead of the crucial game at the VYBK Stadium, Jose Molina spoke to the assembled media. While the Mariners are aware of the stakes, they will be keen to not repeat the mistakes of the past.
Jose Molina is keen to rewrite the wrong of the 2024 Final

Jose Molina was directly asked if his side feels any extra pressure for this upcoming final because of what happened last year. While he was not at the helm of the Mariners, he stated, “To be honest, not too much. I don’t care about what happened in the past. Right now, I’m trying to do my best at Mohun Bagan and we won the shield this time.”
The Spaniard added, “The motivation to win the cup is so high. I don’t need extra motivation because of what happened last season. We have 100% motivation to do the double, but not any added pressure because of what happened in the past.”
While Jose Molina downplayed on the pressures to win the Final, he also emphasized on looking ahead to the upcoming game. The Spaniard promised that he is looking to put his best foot forward in what is going to be a cracker of a game.

The Spaniard wants to put on a strong performance for the fans

When asked if he’d prefer to see a high-scoring ISL final or would be glad with a narrow 1-0 win for his side over Bengaluru FC, the gaffer noted, “We play for the people and we have to make them happy to ensure they enjoy the football.”
Jose Molina added, “In my opinion, our fans are happy when we win matches. If we don’t win, doesn’t matter how we play, they are not happy. What we try to do is to win, be it 1-0, 5-4 or 2-0, doesn’t matter how much. The most important thing is to win to make them happy. That is what we are going to try to do of course.”
Finally, Molina opened up when asked if he was glad that Mohun Bagan was facing an expressive side like Bengaluru FC in the final over a defensive side like Jamshedpur, stating, “I don’t care about what happened in the past. We’re here to play our best, and we want to try to win tomorrow.”
While the Spaniard is not a man to dwell on the past, Bengaluru FC under Gerard Zaragoza can prove to be a tough nut to crack. With the ISL title up for grabs, the Mariners and the Blues are sure to put on a wonderful show for their respective adoring fanbases and hopefully win their second ISL title.
