Mumbai City FC lifted their second ISL Trophy.

Mumbai City FC ripped up the entire script of the ISL final and decided to break the hearts of the Mohun Bagan faithful in the City of Joy with a performance worthy of a final. The Mariners took the lead against the run of play with a goal from Jason Cummings just before half-time.

Mumbai came out all guns blazing and restored parity within the early minutes of the second half as Jorge Pereyra Diaz scored past Vishal Kaith. The visitors looked more dominant and were pushing for a winner before Bipin Singh came on and scored his fourth goal against Mohun Bagan. Finally, in the dying moments, Jakub Vojtus put the final nail in Bagan’s coffin.

Let us take a look at the talking points from the grand finale.

Mumbai played to win and made their intentions very clear from the get go. They were the best team on the night without a shadow of a doubt and did not give up despite conceding first. Petr Kratky’s side hit Mohun Bagan very hard on the final day and in the most crucial game of the season. Their outstanding performance coupled with the dedication to get the trophy made it all possible for them and their fans.

The Islanders produced possibly their best ever performance this season as they had fire burning in their eyes to take revenge of what happened the last time they came up against Bagan. They completed their redemption arc in some style and snatched the ISL Trophy from the hands of Mohun Bagan despite coming into the game as the unofficial underdogs.

Bipin Singh haunts Mohun Bagan again

Bipin Singh re-wrote Mumbai City FC’s fate by scoring yet another important goal in the ISL final. The forward replayed the 2020-21 final where he did scored the winner and helped his side register a comeback and get their hands on the trophy. And three years later, Bipin came back to haunt the Mariners in a very similar fashion.
