The forwards’ stoppage time strike helped the Red Miners beat the Gaurs in their first ISL encounter of the season.

Jordan Murray believes that the win against FC Goa at their home turf is a big boost in confidence for Jamshedpur FC who are set to face Mumbai FC in their first Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 match at JRD Sports Complex on 21st September at 5 PM. The striker shared his thoughts ahead of his side’s next match and here are the excerpts from the same

Thoughts on the previous game

Murray scored in the third minute of stoppage time in the second half of Jamshedpur FC’s showdown with FC Goa at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda. While his goal pretty much ended all hopes for Manolo Marquez’s side, he humbly summarised his thoughts.

“I think we showed fantastic resilience to get the win. Once we started to create some chances, we realized we could hurt them, and obviously, we got the penalty from Javier (Siverio), which was fantastic. He crept into the box, drew a foul, and slotted the penalty away, which gave us extra motivation. Going on to win the game just set the tone. For me, it was incredible team spirit, and hopefully we can take this into the next match,” said the Australian forward.

“The match has given good confidence not only to me but to Javier Siverio as well. We now need to shift our focus to the Mumbai game and do our best, not only for myself but for my team and the fans,” he said.

Previous stint with the Men of Steel

The winner against FC Goa has evoked fond memories with the club, where Murray lifted the ISL league Shield in the 2021-22 season.

“Yeah, obviously I’ve got very amazing memories being at Jamshedpur FC, obviously being a Shield winner in a fantastic season. So, for me to keep on contributing like I did then, I’m obviously very happy, but I want to keep doing that throughout the season. And hopefully we can bring the Shield back to the Furnace where it belongs,” shared the striker.

Staying on course even after getting a win

Jordan Murray acknowledged there were a lot of emotions when scoring a 93rd-minute winner but remains cautious about getting carried away. “To get a win in the first game away against a really tough opponent is phenomenal. I think that sets us up now against the home game against Mumbai with really good confidence and motivation. So, for me, this victory is going to go a long way, but it’s done now, and we need to look forward to the Mumbai game and take it with full confidence,” he explained.
