Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan sit at the top of ISL table.

Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan will hope to get back to winning ways in the Indian Super League (ISL) when they face off against Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on Tuesday (January 21).

Coming off their recent 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur FC, the Mariners need a big win to further extend their lead on the top of the table.

The tricky thing about this is Mohun Bagan face off against Chennaiyin FC a mere three days after their recent trip, giving little resting period for the players.

When asked if this is a big problem for his squad, Jose Molina reflected: “It’s not the best to have one day to prepare for matches, we’d have to like five-six days. But in some moments of the seasons when things happen, you’d want to prepare for a match within a day. It’s not a big problem, as we know how we want to play.

“We are playing well, just have to keep going and doing the same. I’m happy with my players’ performance, we’ll try to recover those who played more than 60 minutes. Some of the players only had a recovery session and tomorrow we’ll have everyone to prepare for the Chennaiyin match. I’m sure we’ll be ready,” he also added.

On facing Chennaiyin FC and a familiar face in Pritam Kotal

Molina is also wary of the threat brought on by Chennaiyin FC despite their wobbly form, especially with Pritam Kotal having joined the Marina Machans in January too. He explained: “Pritam was my player at ATK, he was a good player. I don’t want to pick our specific players, but if he can play against us then that’s good. I’m happy for Pritam, but I hope he can’t play against us and if he plays then he doesn’t have a good game.

“Chennaiyin made us suffer a lot in the last game here. We won due to a Jason Cummings winner in the late stages. They are a tough team to play against, they are strong. They might be conceding goals and suffering from comebacks now, but I’m sure it won’t be easy to face them.

“We’ll have to fight and play really well to defeat them. I have confidence in my team, we can do a good job and get three points against them,” he finished off on.
