Mohun Bagan currently sit at the top spot in the ISL table.

Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan played out their second-straight draw in the Indian Super League (ISL) as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on Tuesday (21 January).

The Mariners experimented with their lineup, with Jose Molina benching both Jason Cummings and Jamie Maclaren as well as opting for a 4-3-1-2 formation. The draw also means that Mohun Bagan failed to extend their lead on top of the ISL table, even though they now have a seven-point lead over second-place FC Goa.

The Spanish gaffer, however, was happy with his side’s effort in the goalless draw as he claimed after the match: “I am happy with the team’s performance today. We would like to score more goals, that’s true and it’s also true that we haven’t scored too many goals in the last matches. But I’m absolutely happy with the performance of the team.”

On winning the ISL Shield

Despite the draw, Molina doesn’t think that the last two results have significantly impacted his side’s ISL shield-winning hopes. He stated: “I’m not worried because we haven’t lost points in the last two matches. You can lose something that you have in your hold, but you don’t have points in your hands so it’s not possible to lose.

“We wanted six points in the last two matches, that’s true but we’ve gained two points than losing any points. We want to keep fighting, we know it won’t be easy to win the ISL shield. We have some points difference with the second-place team, but we have to fight until the end,” he also added.

Mohun Bagan will be eager to get back to winning ways in their upcoming match in the ISL against Bengaluru FC. The Mariners will look to get revenge over the Blues for their 3-0 battering at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium earlier this season and move further away from their ISL shield rivals.
