Jose Molina explains how Mohun Bagan can score goals freely again after Jamshedpur FC draw

Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan sit at the top of the ISL table.

Mohun Bagan saw their three-match winning streak in the Indian Super League (ISL) ended as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur on Friday (17 January).

Despite taking the lead through Subhasish Bose in the first half, a brilliant solo effort from Stephen Eze in the second half helped the Men of Steel earn a point against the league leaders.

Jose Molina was generally pleased with his side’s performance in the game, even though it was the second game in a row in which they were restricted to just one goal. When asked about how his side can get to scoring goals freely once again, the gaffer added: “We have to keep working in the same way. You can complain about the lack of goals and we missed a lot of chances, but the reality is that today. If I’m not wrong then we are the top-scorers in the league (with 31 goals).

“We have the highest number of goals in the ISL with NorthEast United, we are the best along with them in terms of scoring goals and the best in terms of keeping the most clean sheets. Of course, all our attacking players are going to score goals and they are the first ones who want to score. Today was not our day and sometimes those things happen. We are working very hard in terms of finishing chances.

“I’ll tell you something, as a coach never in my career have I worked harder on improving finishing in training session than I have here at Mohun Bagan. We are working a lot to help the players score. We will keep working in the same way, the goals will come and we are also the top scorers,” he also added.

The Mariners have held onto their place on top of the ISL table despite the draw, having an eight-point lead at the top of the summit. They’ll be back on the road on Tuesday (21 January) when they travel to face an unpredictable Chennaiyin FC in their next ISL game.
