Both these players received yellow cards and will miss their next game.

Jose Molina’s Mohun Bagan leapt to the top of the Indian Super League (ISL) table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Chennaiyin FC on Saturday (30 November).

After being frustrated all game long, the Salt Lake Stadium faithful were sent into raptures in the 86th minute when substitute Jason Cummings and Greg Stewart combined resulting in the Australian forward scoring a beautiful winner with a top-corner finish.

A major negative from the result was that the Mariners witnessed defenders Subhasish Bose and Alberto Rodriguez picking up yellow cards. The fourth yellow cards of the 2024-25 season for both the defenders and ISL rules mean that they will now miss the tricky away game against NorthEast United because of a one-match suspension.

Jose Molina’s plan of action

After the match, Jose Molina opened up on how his side can cope with the two vital defenders against the high-scoring Highlanders side and stated: “We talked about that about the possibility that they get suspended at any moment. It was going to happen. It’s not good that both got suspended at the same time, but even it’s not easy because we don’t have too many defenders in our squad.

“I’m completely sure I’ll find a good solution. I have to think about it and see training sessions this week and we’ll try some new things in the upcoming training sessions. But I’m sure we’ll find a solution to the problem as we have really good players and some of them can play in different positions,” Jose Molina also added.

The Mariners have had a shaky form in away games so far this season. In matches outside the Salt Lake Stadium, they’ve only won one of three matches and suffered a bad 3-0 loss to Bengaluru FC earlier this season.

They’ll hope to strengthen their away run by ousting the Highlanders, with Jose Molina’s side knowing the importance for them to keep winning matches and hold onto their place on top of the ISL table.
