Jose Molina vs Gerard Zaragoza: Who has better record as manager?

The Mariners are going to face the Blues at the VYBK Stadium on Saturday.
Indian Super League (ISL) club Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Jose Molina will be facing Bengaluru FC head coach Gerard Zaragoza in the ISL Final on Saturday. Both managers will be facing each other for the third time in the ISL this season, and both Spaniards will be keen to end the season with silverware in their trophy cabinet.
Both managers were roped in by their respective clubs with an eye towards capturing the ISL title this season. While Jose Molina managed to win the ISL shield after finishing at the top of the league’s regular season standings, Zaragoza had a mixed season with the Blues, finishing third.
Let us take a look at how both managers have fared against each other in the ISL this season.
Head-to-Head Record

Played- 2, Molina wins- 1, Zaragoza wins-1, Draw-0
The Spaniards have faced each other twice in league games this season with Gerard Zaragoza winning the first and Jose Molina winning the reverse fixture.
The first meeting was a comprehensive win for Bengaluru as they made their home advantage count against the Mariners with a 3-0 win. Goals from Edgar Mendez, Sunil Chhetri and Suresh Singh Wangjam earned them all three points in match week 3.
The second meeting, however, was a close game between the sides as Jose Molina’s side fought their way to a 1-0 win over the Blues. A wonder strike from winger Liston Colaco was the difference between the sides and gave the league leaders much-needed confidence as they secured back-to-back ISL Shield wins.

Overall Record

Jose Molina- 17 wins in 24 games
Gerard Zaragoza- 11 wins in 24 games
The overall records suggest that Jose Molina has been more successful in his first year in the ISL than his compatriot Gerard Zaragoza. Molina has definitely inherited a title-contention level squad, and while initially protests emerged against his style of play, the Mariners’ fanbase has warmed up to the boss.
Gerard Zaragoza, on the other hand, inherited a Bengaluru FC squad suffering from a lack of confidence after a 10th place finish in the 2023-24 season. But the Spaniard has managed a miraculous recovery of the Blues this season, who find themselves one game away from potentially being crowned the ISL champions.
Title Wins

Jose Molina- 1x Hong Kong Champion, 1x Hong Kong Cup Winner, 1x Indian Super League Champion
Gerard Zaragoza- None
