ISL 2024-25: Mohun Bagan's road to final

Mohun Bagan Super Giant will play Bengaluru FC in the ISL 2024-25 final.

Mohun Bagan are looking to achieve another impressive feat in the Indian Super League (ISL) when they face off against Bengaluru FC in the 2024-25 ISL final at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata.

The Mariners are looking to become only the second team in the competition’s history to win the ISL Shield and ISL trophy in the same campaign. They missed out on the ISL double last season when Mumbai City ruined their party by defeating them in the final in Kolkata. This time around, the Mariners aim to ensure that history does not repeat itself.

Mohun Bagan have been THE dominating team of the 2024-25 ISL campaign. They might have started the league phases in a cagey manner with one win in their first three games but started rolling after a 3-0 loss to Bengaluru FC. Jose Molina’s side showcased admirable consistency in steamrolling their way past opponents, regularly getting key wins to soar past their title rivals.

The Mariners set a number of impressive records in their road to clinching the 2024-25 ISL league shield. They won 17 matches, the highest for any team in a single ISL league phase campaign and picked up 56 points, the highest in a single campaign by a team. Mohun Bagan have also notched up 15 clean sheets, the record-highest for any team in a single season.

They lost only two matches in the league phase, winning 17 matches – which included doing the double over Kolkata rivals East Bengal and Mohamemdan Sporting! A mix of impactful foreigners and reliable domestic players helped Molina’s side dominate their way to retaining their ISL league shield in style.

Mohun Bagan directly qualified for the ISL semifinal, where they were paired up against Jamshedpur FC, who had defeated North East United to get to the place. The Mariners faced a stern task at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in the first leg. Jamshedpur FC maintained a sturdy defensive line and took op their chances, with goals from Javier Siverio and Javi Hernandez helping them get a 2-1 win.

However, the Mariners completed the comeback in their home yard of the Salt Lake Stadium. Despite Jamshedpur FC firmly parking the bus in an attempt to grind out a win, Mohun Bagan’s players showe a lot of resilience and heart.

Jason Cummings converted an early second half penalty, before Lalengmawia Ralte chose the perfect game to score his first Mohun Bagan goal in smashing a dramatic late winner to send his side to the ISL final, where they will now face Bengaluru FC at the Salt Lake Stadium.
