Mumbai City FC impressed in an impressive back-and-forth game.
Peter Krakty’s Mumbai City FC put on a spirited performance against a tough Michael Strahe-led Kerala Blasters FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) during match week 7. With this win, Mumbai City FC registered their first home win this season in impressive fashion led by their captain Lallianzuala Chhangte. Goals from Nikolaos Karelis, Chhangte and Nathan Asher Rodrigues were enough to see Mumbai grab all three points.
A young squad fielded by Kratky this season, the faith was repaid by his players and helped them climb up to the 7th spot in the ISL standings. Mumbai are now level on points with FC Goa, with both teams on identical goal difference figures.
With that being said, here are the ratings of Indian players from the game.
Mumbai City FC (by Anuj T)
Phurba Tempa Lachenpa- 5.5
Lachenpa was largely a spectator in the first half. However, in the second half couldn’t save a penalty. Unfortunately was substituted in the 78th minute through injury.
Hmingthan Mawia – 6
The MCFC right-back was an active contributor to the attack and played a crucial ball to release Chhangte for the first goal. While defensively he was caught out, Mawia gave a good account of himself against KBFC.
Mehtab Singh – 6
A solid presence in the MCFC defense. Made crucial defensive interceptions amidst wave after wave of KBFC pressure. Not at fault for the conceded goals but a good performance against a great team.
Lallianzuala Chhangte- 8
A captain’s performance by the Indian winger. Set up Karelis for the first goal and scored a penalty in the second half. Tireless running and being the creative spark in the attack highlighted an excellent performance by Chhangte.
Brandon Fernandes- 6
A good performance in midfield for Fernandes. Provided a good account for his quality. Won multiple midfield duels and had a solid performance.
Nathan Asher Rodrigues- 6.5
The MCFC defender showed fantastic energy for the Blues and even pitched in with a third goal to give Mumbai some breathing space. A good performance against a tough and resilient Kerala side.
Bipin Singh- 5.5
Had a quiet game with a notably good team performance. Wasn’t able to convert big chances.
Noufal PN- 6
Came on as a substitute in the 65th minute and made excellent runs over the shoulder of the last defender. However failed to apply the clinical touch to some good opportunities
Rehenesh TP- 5.5
Came on as a substitute in the 78th minute to replace Lachenpa. Claimed good balls in the air and was largely undisturbed in goal after coming on.
Jayesh Rane- 5
Wasted some golden opportunities to score. A substitute appearance to forget for Jayesh in a good team performance.

Som Kumar – 6.0
Som Kumar was let down by his defence for the first goal and was not much tested for the rest of the game except for crosses. The youngster’s anticipation was key at times while the Blaster’s defence were caught out by Mumbai’s long through balls.
However, he was let down again and again as the Blasters conceded two penalties and was not an impactful outing for the youngster, conceding four goals.
Sandeep Singh – 5.5
Sandeep, starting once again as an attacking wing-back in a back five, was not up to the mark for the Blasters. He was often beaten in defence by Bipin where Hormipam had his back covering for the spaces left.
In attack, Sandeep often found himself in spaces but was poor in the finishing and crossing department. He was subbed off after the first half due to the poor performance.
Hormipam Ruivah – 6.5
Hormipam started in the Blaster’s three-man backline and the youngster had an average game. He left Karelis unmarked in the goal for the first goal and was poor in defending set-piece situations. He had to cover the space left vacant by Sandeep on the counters.
The centre-back applied pressure with his presence while defending against the Mumbai breaks and did exceptionally well in one-on-one battles against Bipin. He was an extra man in attack at times, occupying half-spaces.
Pritam Kotal – 5.0
Pritam Kotal once again had a poor game in the backline, struggling against the Mumbai attack. He was often beaten by Chhangte’s pace which was crucial during the first goal. The Indian international also led with his hand while defending a set piece, which resulted in the concession of a penalty.
Despite some decisive blocks towards the end of the game, he had a pathetic game at the back and was a weak link in set-pieces.
Huidrom Naocha Singh – 7.5
Naocha, as an attacking wing-back, was one silver lining for the Blasters’ in the attack. He was a lively presence on the flanks, playing like a winger, dribbling past defenders with sublime touches, delivering effective balls into the box.
The wing-back had to work hard, tracking back during counters, which often left Chhangte open to receive Mumbai’s through balls.
Vibin Mohanan – 6.5
Vibin Mohanan had to support the defense, at times leaving the midfield vacant when counter-attack opportunities arose for the Blasters.
Except for an exquisite pass that found Naocha open to attack, he focused on his defensive duties throughout the game. The midfielder had a night to forget, as he had to make a challenge when left alone as the last man defending his box, resulting in the concession of another penalty.
Danish Farooq – 6.0
Danish Farooq received his second consecutive yellow card in back-to-back games due to a rash challenge in the first half. He was subbed off again at halftime to avoid a red card but had a decent performance in midfield, providing accurate passes and supporting the defense.
Substitutes
Freddy Lallawmawma – 6.0
Freddy replaced Danish Farooq for the second half and had an average outing.
Korou Singh Thingujam – 6.0
Korou Singh Thingujam had his first appearance of the season and had an average second half. He could not find an accurate final ball while trying to link up with the Blaster’s forwards.
