Punjab FC will come up against Odisha FC in their next ISL encounter.
The 2023-24 season of the Indian Super League (ISL) has proven to be exceptionally competitive, marked by fierce contests as teams compete for the summit and coveted playoffs berths. Presently, a gripping race is underway, with a narrow six-point margin separating the top five contenders, while the subsequent six teams closely trail with a mere four-point variance between them.
As teams return from the international break, players will step into the field with more energy and enthusiasm. There are still many teams who are there in the top-six race. Punjab FC are placed sixth in the Indian Super League table with 21 points from 19 matches. They have a fair chance of qualifying for the playoffs as the sixth team.
Meanwhile, let’s look at the possible options for the Shers to qualify.
3. Head-to-Head Records

Chennaiyin FC, Punjab FC, and Bengaluru FC each have the opportunity to accumulate a maximum of 30 points if they secure victories in all their remaining matches. While Punjab FC hold the advantage in head-to-head matchups against Bengaluru FC, they have a less favorable record when compared to Chennaiyin FC. Hence Punjab FC will want Chennaiyin to concede more goals to make their job easier.
2. Chennaiyin FC have to drop points
Punjab FC will have their eyes on the upcoming fixtures of Chennaiyin FC as they will hope the Mariana Machans drop points in those clashes. Chennaiyin have games against Mohun Bagan, NorthEast United, FC Goa, and Jamshedpur FC.
If Oyen Coyle’s men get stuck in any of these fixtures it will be perfect for Punjab FC. While facing teams like Mohun Bagan and FC Goa, Chennaiyin will navigate a difficult challenge to emerge as victors.
1. All win or nothing

The situation for Punjab FC is ‘do or die’ in the race for the sixth spot. The Shers need to win all their remaining Indian Super League fixtures to qualify. Madih Talal will play a key role in their quest for the playoff spot. Punjab FC have their matches against Odisha FC, Mohun Bagan, and East Bengal. East Bengal are also a contender for the top-six. Although the qualification chances for Punjab FC seem difficult, they will look forward to other teams for help.
