Roy Krishna became the ISL’s joint-top scorer after the goal.
Roy Krishna proved his worth as Odisha FC’s talisman once again, scoring a stunning solo goal to secure a crucial 2-1 victory against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the first leg of the Indian Super League (ISL) semi-final.
With Mohun Bagan taking an early lead, the pressure mounted on the home side. However, Roy Krishna rose to the occasion in the 39th minute. Odisha goalkeeper Amrinder Singh launched a long ball towards Krishna battling near the halfway line.
The Fijian international displayed exceptional control, cushioning the ball with his head before initiating a lightning-fast sprint towards goal.
Mohun Bagan defender Hector Yuste attempted to challenge Krishna, but the striker displayed remarkable strength to shield the ball. With a composed finish, Krishna slotted the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper Vishal Kaith, sending the Kalinga Stadium crowd into a frenzy.
This goal wasn’t just about brute force; it showcased Krishna’s complete attacking skillset – aerial prowess, pace, power, and a cool head under pressure.
The strike not only put Odisha in the lead but also cemented Krishna’s position as the league’s joint-top scorer with 13 goals.
