Six records set by Mohun Bagan with dominant ISL 2024-25 shield success

Mohun Bagan became the first team in ISL history to win the league shield in consecutive seasons.
Mohun Bagan officially claimed the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) shield championship with their 1-0 win over Odisha FC. It was ultimately Dimitri Petratos’ goal deep in stoppage time that helped the Mariners get all three points, making it impossible for any other team to surpass them in the table in the league.
In doing so, the Mariners have also managed to set a large number of new records in the ISL history books. For one, they are the first-ever team to have successfully retained the ISL league shield championship, after having also won it in the 2023-24 campaign as well.
Record-breaking points and wins
Mohun Bagan’s win over Odisha FC helped them surpass 50 points and get themselves to 52 points. They are the first team to have surpassed the 50-point mark in a single ISL campaign. Their 52 points is also the highest points total managed by any team in a single season of the ISL.
The Kolkata Giants’ win over Odisha FC also marked the 16th game that they have won in the ongoing 2024-25 season. No other team has ever been able to win so many matches in a single league phase campaign in the ISL. Mohun Bagan won 15 matches in the league phase last season, but have managed to do one better this time around (with two more matches to play in the league stages).
A key strength of Mohun Bagan’s dominance in the 2024-25 season has been their form at the Salt Lake Stadium. In their 11 home games so far in the campaign, the Mariners have won 10 games – the most any team has won at home in a single ISL campaign.
Brilliant attack and defence
The Mariners have been extremely dominant in terms of scoring goals from set-pieces. Out of their 43 goals scored so far (from 22 games), 20 of them have come from set-pieces itself. A majority of those have been scored by Subhasish Bose (six goals so far) and Alberto Rodriguez (five goals so far).
Mohun Bagan’s defensive record has also played a key role for how impressive they’ve been this season. In their 22 matches so far, the Mariners have kept 14 clean sheets, the most any team have managed in a single ISL campaign. They are also the first team to have kept six clean sheets in a row in the ISL, and it’s been over 500 minutes since they’ve conceded in the competition.
The Mariners will look to extend their impressive form by winning the remainder of their matches and also doing the ISL double by winning the ISL trophy too.
