ISL 2024-25: Top five Indian players from matchweek 20

A list featuring some of the best Indian players who stepped up for their clubs in ISL like Vishal Kaith and Thoiba Singh.

The conclusion of match week 20 of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season witnessed some standout performers with important contributions to their clubs. While Indian stars usually deliver promising performances, the week has seen some of them step up and fulfil that promise.

The match week witnessed a fantastic showcase of football filled with spectacular goals and assists that would make any Indian football fan proud. With the teams approaching the final few match weeks, the expectation for the Indian players to step up and deliver grows exponentially.

Here’s a look at the top five Indian players who set the ISL stage on fire.

5. Vishal Kaith (Mohun Bagan Super Giant)

The Mohun Bagan Super Giant goalkeeper once again showed his quality by securing his 11th clean sheet of the season against Mohammedan SC. His 2 crucial saves and command over the defensive line ensured that the opposition couldn’t find the back of the net.

The Punjab native has been a source of consistent performances between the posts for Mohun Bagan while simultaneously staking a claim at India’s No.1 spot. With three consecutive clean sheets in their last three league games, Kaith will be an important figure in the upcoming ISL playoffs.

4. Isak Vanlalruatfela (Odisha FC)

In the thrilling 2-2 draw against NorthEast United FC, Vanlalruatfela showed his talent by scoring the last-grasp equalizing goal for Odisha FC. His creativity and vision were on full display against the Highlanders as he navigated through the opposition’s defence and set up Thoiba Singh with a lovely cross to make it 1-1 in the 78th minute.

In a game when all three points looked lost, Isak stepped up for his side. He latched on to a superb through ball by striker Diego Mauricio before slotting the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal in added time. His contributions this season have been vital for Odisha FC, with Isak adding depth and flair to their attacking options.

3. Thoiba Singh (Odisha FC)

The 22-year-old made a significant impact in Odisha FC’s encounter against NorthEast United FC. After being deployed as a centre-back against the Highlanders, he nodded home a crucial goal in the 78th minute after a well-timed cross from Isak.

His midfield dynamism and ability to make late runs into the box added an extra dimension to Odisha’s attack. With versatile performances becoming a trademark of the player, Singh highlighted his growing influence in the team’s midfield setup and why he could be a future star in the league.

2. Manvir Singh (Mohun Bagan Super Giant)

Manvir Singh

Manvir Singh played a pivotal role for the Mariners against the Black Panthers, netting in two goals in a 4-0 rout of the bottom-of-the-table club. His pace and positioning troubled the opposition’s defence throughout the game and made him a nightmare to defend on the night.

His consistent goal-scoring form will be a huge bonus for Mohun Bagan head coach Jose Molina ahead of the upcoming ISL playoffs. He provides them with a reliable attacking option and has pitched in with his creativity with five goals and three assists in 18 games. If the Mariners are hoping to go all the way and achieve the league double, Manvir will be a key part of their quest to win their fifth title.

1. Subhasish Bose (Mohun Bagan Super Giant)

Bose continued his impressive form in the league following a scintillating display where he scored two goals in Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s commanding victory over Mohammedan SC. Primarily known as a player for his defensive capabilities, Bose showcased his versatility and attacking prowess from the left-back position.

Apart from contributing significantly to his team’s success, he showed great ability to join the attack and finish clinically. With six goals and an assist this season, Bose will be another key player for his side looking to achieve their true goal of capturing the ISL title.
