Kabir Nath can play on either wings and has a knack of scoring goals.

Assamese footballer Kabir Nath has signed a long-term contract to join Andorran club CF Atletic America. The 23-year-old dipped into his football career in Assam, where he played for the majority of his youth career before moving to Spain at the age of 14.

Nath will be playing for the Andorran club from the 2024/25 season and will be determined to help them get back to Primera Divisio in 2025. Atletic America were relegated from the Andorra top division at the end of the 2023/24 season, spending only one campaign in the top flight.

With that being said, this will still be a fresh challenge for Nath – who has been playing in the lower Spanish leagues for many years now. He joined Liga Nacional Juvenil side Cambrilis Uno at the age of 17 in 2017 and spent two years as part of their youth academy.

Nath would then go on a major grind in his career, playing for Spanish teams in certain regional leagues and at the lower leagues. He played for the likes of Olimpic de Xativa, UE Engordany, Villajoyosa, and Tarragona.

Kabir Nath’s best personal season was in the 2022/23 campaign when he scored 18 goals in nine appearances for Tarragona FC in Spain’s lower divisions. His most recent club before joining Atletic America was FC Asco, which plays in the local Catalonian football league in Barcelona.

The 23-year-old has developed into a quick, proactive winger who can play either as a left-winger or a right-winger. He loves to drift into the empty spaces into the final third, get past defenders with clever dribbles, and has a decent eye for contributing goals.

He was actually signed onto a trial or short-term deal by Atletic America at the beginning of 2024. Nath made 15 appearances in the Primera Divsio, becoming the first Indian footballer to play in a European top flight. But the 23-year-old was only able to score one goal and failed to stop them from relegation.

But Kabir Nath will now be determined to do better after having signed a permanent contract with the Andorran side. He has joined a lucrative list of Indian footballers to have played in Europe – Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Sunil Chhetri, Subrata Paul and Bhaichung Bhutia.

While Andorra might be ranked in the 164th place in the FIFA rankings, way behind India, this experience in a European league can be a learning experience for Nath. He will look to test his skills against foreign players and become even better, and it remains to be seen if he has any interest in playing in the Indian Super League (ISL) anytime soon.
