Kannur Warriors upset defeating defending champions Calicut to secure a spot in Super League Kerala Final

Kannur Warriors have qualified for their first-ever Super League Kerala Final.
Kannur Warriors FC clinched a famous victory at the EMS Corporation Stadium, Kozhikode, knocking down the defending champions Calicut FC with a narrow 1-0 scoreline on their home soil. With this victory, Kannur Warriors have sealed a spot for their first-ever Super League Kerala final.
In the first half, both teams played it safe and crafted a few attacks, which did not create much trouble for their opponents. However, as the game continued, both teams slowly started to settle in and displayed a performance of intent.
But, despite everything, the scoreboard remained nil-nil. In the second half, after continuous attacks, Asier Gomes won a penalty at the edge of the box, which was confidently converted by Sinan, who scored the solitary goal of the game and seal the deal for the Warriors in Super League Kerala.

Deadlock not broken at Kozhikode

In the first half, both teams played it safe, trying to control the ball, keep possession and make some short passes. While the EMS Corporation Stadium crowd favoured the hosts, it mounted the semi-final pressure upon the Warriors, which made them shaky for the initial minutes.
In the 13th minute, Calicut got the first real chance of the match. Prashant deployed a curling ball off a corner towards Alexis Sosa, which hit the crossbar. Just seconds later, Sachu failed to mark Sinan in the final third, which led to the U23 striker coming in a 1v1 situation with the keeper. However, Sinan’s cheeky attempt to chip the ball missed the target, keeping the scores nil-nil.
Both Kannur and Calicut FC continued to make their attacks, but none of those initiatives found the back of the net. Later, as the minutes ticked, Kannur slowly started to get a grip on the match, and this led to Calicut players being booked by the referee. From then on, neither team took much risk, and the score remained all square at the end of the first half.
Sinan leads the Warriors to the Finals!
Calicut FC came into the second half with a few changes, and this injected some attacking intent for the hosts. Prashant made some accelerated runs in the final third while Ajsal twisted and turned his body to create chances for his side. However, the resilient Kannur defence did not make things easy for the defending champions. Kannur Warriors, on the other hand, attacked from the wings and whipped in some good crosses into the 6-yard area, but the keeper Hajmal, along with his defensive unit, did well to clear the ball.
In the 69th minute, Calicut FC were forced to commit a foul inside their penalty box following an attack from Asier Gomes, leading to them conceding a penalty. Sinan stepped up to take the penalty and took a thumping shot to the right, which, after a touch from the keeper, found the back of the net, providing advantage for the visiting side, Kannur Warriors. In the 75th minute, Hajmal failed to judge the bounce of the ball, leaving the ball with Sinan in front of an open net. However, to the dismay of the Warriors, Sinan was unable to generate power for the shot, and it was somehow saved by Hajmal. However, the keeper was injured in the process and was substituted off the pitch.
As the game progressed, both teams became more desperate than ever. Calicut FC tried all their might to find the equaliser and take the match into extra time. However, Kannur Warriors put their bodies on the line and defended as a unit. Calicut won a freekick in the stoppage time from a dangerous position, but the composed visiting side seamlessly evaded the danger. They continued to create a platter of opportunities, but the crowd created by Kannur inside their box was too much force for Calicut to break past, and at full time, Kannur Warriors defeated Calicut FC with a narrow 1-0 margin.
With this win, Kannur Warriors FC have registered their spot in the Super League Kerala Finals for the first time ever.
