Kuwait national team boasts of some talented players.
Football is the most famous and most watched sport around the world. Football has seen the development of countless renowned players who have left an indelible mark on the sport.
As the game evolved over the years, there have been incredible players who have outdone each other. The potential to rise under pressure and consistently perform when it means the most is a true mark of quality in a player.
Kuwait have produced some really good players who have performed well for their country and helped the country to be one of the best in Asia. Even though Kuwait have suffered some internal issues which caused their football level to go down, but some of the players left a big impact on the Blue Wave national team.
These players have made a name for themselves at such a level that they are like gods in their country when it comes to football. Here we will look at the top five greatest Kuwait international players of all-time:
5. Bashar Abdullah
He is a former Kuwaiti international player who used to play as a forward. Bashar Abdullah was a part of the mini-revival of Kuwaiti football between 1996 and 1998. He played a very crucial role in winning two Gulf Cups, reaching the semi-finals of the AFC Asian Cup and coming second at the Arab Cup and Olympics.
He was also in the national team that reached the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. He made 134 appearances for the national team and scored 75 goals.
4. Fathi Kameel
Fathi Kameel used to play as a forward. He helped the national team to qualify for the 1982 World Cup by scoring a goal against New Zealand. He also played a crucial role in winning the 1980 Asian Cup.
At the 1976 Asian Cup, he was the joint top scorer with three goals. Kameel also represented the national team at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Even though he only made 28 appearances and scored eight goals for the Blue Wave, his impact was massive for Kuwaiti football.
3. Jasem Al-Huwaidi
Jasem, in his playing days, used to play as a forward. The tall, physically strong Jasem was known for his knack of scoring goals from nowhere. He made 74 appearances for the national team in which he scored 63 goals.
He was part of the Kuwait team which reached 24th place in the FIFA rankings, which is till now the highest ranking the Blue Wave have ever achieved. Jasem was instrumental in Kuwait getting the silver medal at the Asian Games, winning two Gulf Cups and coming third at the Arab Cup. He also competed at the Summer Olympics.
2. Bader Al-Mutawa
He is a legend for the Kuwait national team. He is the player with the most appearances for the Blue Wave. He played 196 matches and scored 56 goals.
He was so good that he got a trial for Nottingham Forest, but unfortunately, he was not able to get a work permit. He used to play as a second striker upfront and was known for his leadership qualities as well.
1. Faisal Al-Dakhil
Al-Dakhil was among the Kuwaiti players who won the 1980 Asian Cup. He played four matches for Kuwait at the 1980 Summer Olympics, scoring three goals in one match against Nigeria.
Even though he was short in stature, he was quick and very strong in his playing days. He is a legend for Kuwaiti football and his impact was huge.
