The game witnessed two teams with nearly identical seasons throughout the year going head-to-head as they battle it out for the ISL shield. The game was lively from the first whistle with Jamshedpur making significant in roads early on. The deadlock in the game was broken by Lazar Cirkovic in the 34th minute as he whipped a wicked shot from outside the box which Hrithik Tiwari could helplessly dive and wonder.
Following the goal, the Red Miners piled on more pressure on FC Goa, and the pressure paid off for the home side as Mohammed Sanan’s effort was spilled by Tiwari, and Javier Siverio pounced on the loose ball to slot it in the empty net to make it 2-0.
However, FC Goa were determined to not go down without a fight, and reduced the deficit by one following a gorgeous curling effort from Ayush Dev Chhetri made it 2-1. However, the fight from Manolo Marquez’s team was short lived as Jamshedpur scored a third in the 68th minute as Siverio rose the highest during a Jamshedpur FC corner to seal the result for Khalid Jamil’s men.
The victory helped Jamshedpur leapfrog FC Goa to the second spot and emerge as the new challengers for Mohun Bagan’s dominance. With both rivals set to renew their rivalry in a different competition, it will be interesting to see if FC Goa will have revenge on their mind against Jamshedpur FC in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
