[Watch] Luka Modric sends special message to Sunil Chhetri ahead of final India match

The legendary Croatian international shared words of motivation for Sunil Chhetri.
The Indian football team are set to host Kuwait in a vital 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (second round) fixture at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on 6 June 2024. The fixture holds a lot of importance as it will decide the fate of the Indian team in their quest to advance to the final round of the AFC region’s World Cup Qualifiers.
A victory will take them one step closer to finishing second in Group A, but a defeat or a draw will make things highly challenging. The Indian football team will be bidding adieu to Sunil Chhetri tonight, as the skipper has planned to hang up his boots.
However, before the ball starts rolling at the Salt Lake Stadium, the Indian team and their skipper Sunil Chhetri have received a motivational message from none other than Luka Modric of Real Madrid, who helped Real Madrid win a 15th UEFA Champions League title recently. The legendary footballer is from the same country as Indian head coach Igor Stimac, as both hail from Croatia.
A message from one legend to another
In a video posted by Igor Stimac on his social media account on X, Luka Modric can be seen speaking about Sunil Chhetri’s final game for India. He said, “Hi Sunil! I just want to say hello and wish you all the best for your last game with the national team. Congratulations on your career.
“You are a legend of this game and to your teammates, I hope you make his last game special and unforgettable. Good luck and win for your captain. All the best and regards from Croatia.”
“Thank you, Luka. We will do everything in our power to make our country and our captain proud,” Igor Stimac captioned the video. The tactician is evidently under immense pressure to guide the Indian team to the third round of the qualifiers, as the noise around his job gets louder.
Igor Stimac will hope that Luka Modric’s heartwarming message for Sunil Chhetri resonates and the players deliver a fabulous performance, resulting in a memorable victory against Kuwait.
Modric, who won a sixth UEFA Champions League title with Los Blancos, will be focused on guiding Croatia to glory at the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.
