Malappuram FC and Kannur Warriors settle for goalless draw in Super League Kerala

This is the first draw in the second season of Super League Kerala.
Malappuram FC and Kannur Warriors FC settled for a draw in the final game of the second round fixtures of the Super League Kerala at the Payyanad Stadium in Manjeri. With this stalemate, both teams have four points after the first two games of the season.
In the first half, both teams made a few attacks to challenge the opponents and gain an early momentum in the game, but despite all the efforts, the lack of coordination among the players kept the score line stagnant.
In the second half, Kannur came determined to take the lead and piled pressure upon the hosts with their aggressive attacks. But to the rescue of Malappuram, Azhar stood steady as the last line of defense and ensured that no balls went past him.
No goals in first half

Kannur got the ball rolling, and Malappuram FC, under the floodlights of the Manjeri Stadium, filled with their energetic fans, displayed a good attacking intent in the initial minutes. But, somewhere down the line, they were unable to execute their offensive initiatives in the final third.
Although Roy Krishna dispossessed the opponents in midfield and made dribbles into the final third, the lack of support from his teammates meant that the Warriors’ backline comfortably contained him.
Kannur, on the other hand, were playing a slow game and were constantly gifting possession to the hosts, which ultimately created danger for themselves as they were forced to commit fouls from dangerous positions when Malappuram capitalized on their mistakes and progressed forward with the ball. However, the defensive unit of the visitors stood strong to dampen the energy of the home fans.
Almost half an hour into the match, Kannur started to slowly test the hosts by whipping in some crosses from the right. But almost all the crosses lacked power and precision and were easily collected by Azhar. Malappuram also created some confusion in the Kannur penalty box with their corner kicks and long throw-ins. However, most of the goal attempts were scuffed efforts and did not really test the keeper.
Malappuram and Kannur share the spoils

In the second half, Malappuram were a bit careless and overcommitted, and this saw Gani and Jithin being booked by the referee within the first three minutes. Just a minute later, Kannur then deployed a flurry of attacks, which mounted a huge amount of pressure upon Malappuram.
Akbar, in the 60th minute, made a stunning run on the left flank and penetrated the penalty box to provide a pass to Abhijith, who missed an open goal to keep the home crowd waiting for the opener. Kannur later took full advantage of all the set-pieces and kept building pressure on Malappuram, but Azhar was not going to be beaten tonight.
Later, though both sides did all they could to breach the net and find the winning goal, they were unable to produce any magic. The match ended in a goalless draw, the first of this Super League Kerala season.
