Forca Kochi face their fifth consecutive defeat in Super League Kerala

Malappuram FC secured a dominating victory, trashing the hosts Forca Kochi 4-1 at the Maharajas Stadium, Kochi. With this win, Malappuram climb up to the top of the table in Super League Kerala with nine points, and Forca Kochi still remain at the bottom, with their playoff hopes almost extinguished.

Malappuram FC scored their opener courtesy of Roy Krishna in the 37th minute and soon doubled their lead through John Kennedy’s goal. In the second half, Kennedy made no mistake to capitalise on the sloppy goalkeeping from Murshid to score their third goal. In the 65th minute, Sajeesh scored a consolation goal for the hosts, and in the dying minutes, Abdul Hakku marked the nail in the coffin by scoring the fourth goal of the match.

The first half started off with a slow tempo as neither team were able to create any attack from their side. Forca Kochi was seen initially having a slight upper edge over the visiting side, as their winger Sangeeth Satheesh initiated some of Forca Kochi’s attacking initiatives with his accelerated moves.

Later, Malappuram slowly started to take control of the match, and they began to pile pressure upon the hosts, with the services of Badr, Nithin Madhu and their marquee duo of Roy Krishna and John Kennedy.

In the 37th minute, Badr won a loose ball off the Forca Kochi transition and provided a through ball to Roy Krishna, who managed to win a penalty for his side. The skipper sent the keeper the wrong way and opened the accounts for Malappuram. In the dying minutes, Kennedy won the ball, made a turn, and took a long-range shot to double the delight for the visitors.

The Brazilian striker’s consistent offensive initiatives saw Forca Kochi midfielder being shown a second yellow, leading to a send-off, adding to the frustration of the hosts.

In the 65th minute, Forca Kochi pulled back one goal, thanks to Sajeesh, who connected a lofted ball from the right flank to the back of the net, providing Kochi with a consolation goal. In the 94th minute, Abdul Hakku powerfully headed in and converted a corner kick to score the fourth goal for Malappuram and put the game to bed.
