Football is not like a receipe of a soup or a Biryani: Mohammedan SC coach Andrey Chernyshov

Mohammedan SC boss also hoped for a big turnout at Chennai.
Andrey Chernyshov’s Mohammedan SC, the newest entrants in the Indian Super League (ISL), have impressed fans and critics with their dynamic style of play in their debut season. Unfortunately, despite their strong performances, the Black Panthers from Kolkata have been unfortunate, managing to secure just one point from two home games.
As they prepare for their Gameweek 3 clash against Owen Coyle’s Chennaiyin FC, Mohammedan SC head coach Andrey Chernyshov provided some unique insights into his approach during the pre-match press conference.
When asked about his tactical inputs and playing style, Andrey Chernyshov offered a metaphorical response, comparing football strategy to cooking a bowl of soup and Biryani. “I don’t have a recipe. When you want to cook some soup, some Biryani, this is the recipe’s name. No one has that in football,” the Russian tactician explained, highlighting differences between football and cooking.
Rather than relying on fixed formulas like cooking, Andrey Chernyshov emphasized the importance of communication and mental toughness in tight situations referring to Mohammedan SC’s struggles with conceding late goals. “The only way is that you need to speak with the players and tell them, if we want good results then we need to be better in the last minutes,” Andrey Chernyshov added.
Traveling to Chennai will be a new experience: Andrey Chernyshov
Before their trip to Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium in Chennai, head coach Andrey Chernyshov has expressed some concerns about the upcoming fixture. The concerns, however, were unrelated to the players’ ability to play but rather about adapting to their first away game experience in the ISL.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Andrey Chernyshov shared his thoughts on the new experience of playing away from home. “I am a little worried but maybe not about how we will play. I know we will play well, and we will do it all on the ground. I am a little bit worried about the first away match because this is a new experience. This is about traveling, about the stadium.”
Despite these concerns, Chernyshov made it clear that his worries do not extend to his players’ mentality or performance. “Not to worry about my players, this is not like that,” he reassured but admitted that the team would be stepping into unknown territory. “Look, the first away match is a new feeling, a new experience.”
With Chennaiyin FC set to play their first home game of the season, Andrey Chernyshov anticipates a lively atmosphere. “Although sure, Chennaiyin FC will play at home, the first match in this competition. I hope many people come to the ground, to the stadium to see the match.”
