Jamie Maclaren touched down on Sunday night in Kolkata.

Mohun Bagan’s marquee signing Jamie Maclaren arrived at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in the wee hours of 28th July. He was warmly welcomed by the Mariners’ faithful who adorned him with garlands and chanted his name.

The management was also present to extend their regards to the team’s newest signing, but the fans’ excitement knew no bounds. Eventfully, the attacker shares his birthday with the auspicious occasion of Mohun Bagan Day on 29th July. The Australian striker started training alongside his new teammates today.

Maclaren will join the Durand Cup 2023 and ISL League Winners’ Shield 2023-24 winners with the hopes of even better performances this campaign. Amidst the departure of another prolific goalscorer in Armando Sadiku, Maclaren’s arrival is deemed a like-for-like replacement.

He will be aided, however, by the incoming former Jamshedpur FC and Mumbai City midfield magician Greg Stewart.

Stewart and Apuia will don the iconic Maroon and Green of the Mariners this season alongside Jamie Maclaren. Australian compatriot Jason Cummings will also be instrumental in helping the forward get acclimatized to the league and culture here.

Mariners mark beginning of pre-season training with Mohun Bagan Day session

Mohun Bagan resumed training at their home ground on Mohun Bagan Day with the staff and players in attendance. The squad is already hard at work with a victory in the bag against Downtown Heroes in the Durand Cup 2024 group stage.

Mainstays Glan Martins and Asish Rai as well as the newly signed Tommy Aldred featured in the match as Suhail Bhat scored the winning goal. The Mariners’ next fixture is a week later against the Indian Air Force at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.

Jamie Maclaren’s arrival the day before signals a welcome start to the training session scheduled to begin on the most memorable day in the club’s existence. Since 2001, 29th July has been regarded as Mohun Bagan Day, as the club became the first Indian outfit to clinch the IFA Shield by beating the British regimental side East Yorkshire on the same day in 1911.

Along with Jamie Maclaren, Jason Cummings, Liston Colaco, Apuia and Vishal Kaith also featured in the training session under their new boss Jose Molina.
