The Mariners will be hoping for retribution against their Durand Cup 2024 Final opponent.

Kolkata heavyweights Mohun Bagan Super Giant will be taking on Durand Cup 2024 champions, NorthEast United FC, in a sophomore fixture in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on 23rd September. Mohun Bagan will be looking to clinch their first win of ISL 2024-25 after sharing the spoils from their 2-2 draw against Mumbai City FC in the season opener.

Jamie Maclaren, the most anticipated recruit of the Green and Maroon camp this season, is hopeful of making his debut against the Highlanders on Monday. The last time the Mariners met the Highlanders was in the Durand Cup 2024 final at the same venue.

The match had a final scoreline of 2-2 after the end of 90 minutes, and the winner was to be decided based on spot kicks. Mohun Bagan lost the tiebreaker 4-3 as NorthEast United went on to clinch their first-ever silverware under Juan Pedro Benali’s tactical acumen.

The visitors were able to secure three points from their first game against ISL debutants, Mohammedan SC. Alaeddine Ajaraie’s late strike in injury time secured all three points for NorthEast as they began their campaign on a positive note.

Benali’s team seems to be in great shape and can prove to be a difficult side to break down given their current form. They are already seven games unbeaten across all domestic competitions and will be vying for their eighth straight win when they face Jose Molina’s men on Monday. Recently, the club has also got a new home turf to themselves after the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong was cleared to host their matches for the latter part of the ISL campaign.
