Super League Kerala 2025: Qualification scenarios of all teams explained

The 3rd and 4th playoffs spots will be decided in the next two matches.

Kannur Warriors created an upset at the Corporation Stadium, Thrissur, to defeat the strong second-placed Thrissur Magic FC at their home turf 2-0 in the first matchday of the Round 10 fixtures of the Super League Kerala. With this win, the Warriors have climbed to third place and have reignited their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals.

The Warriors maintained a yard’s advantage over the Magicians throughout the match, as they continued to attack persistently, silencing the hosts and the home crowd completely. However, luck did not favour them as everything looked great until it came to finishing, where they struggled.

All their attempts lacked proper weight, and whenever they found the right weight, the crossbar came as a block.

In the 43rd minute, Asier Gomes finally broke the deadlock, after tapping in the perfectly weighted assist from Sinan, providing the Warriors with a narrow lead ahead of the break. In the second half, the same story continued, as despite continued attacks, Kannur struggled to score.

In the 97th minute, Arjun fired a counterattack, which, after a brilliant team play, was scored by Ebindas, who put the game to bed in favour of the visiting side.

Qualification Scenario after Match 28 of Super League Kerala

Currently, Calicut FC and Thrissur Magic FC are the only two teams qualified for the semi-finals. The battle for third and fourth places is between Kannur Warriors FC, Malappuram FC and Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC.

After this match against Thrissur Magic FC, Kannur Warriors FC have completed all their group stage matches. The Warriors, with an additional three points, have climbed two spots to reach the third position in the points table with 13 points and a goal difference of -2

Thiruvananthapuram Kombans and Malappuram FC are the direct contenders for the playoff spots in front of the Warriors. The Kombans are placed in the fourth position with 12 points and a goal difference of +1. For the capital side, even a draw in their next match would progress them to the semi-finals of the Super League Kerala.

However, if they lose their match against Calicut FC, then even a draw for Malappuram would eliminate the Kombans from the tournament.

For Malappuram FC, a win is the only option available to ensure their survival in the league. With 11 points in hand, any result other than a win would mean curtains are down for Malappuram, given that Kombans draw or win their next match. However, if Kombans lose their next game, a draw would take Malappuram to the knockouts.

Kannur Warriors, having completed all their matches, must hope that either the Kombans or Malappuram FC loses their next game to ensure survival in the league.

Qualification Scenarios in short

  • Thrissur Magic FC – Qualified, will play the Semi-Final 1
  • Calicut FC – Qualified, will play Semi-Final 2
  • Kannur Warriors FC – Hope either Thiruvananthapuram or Malappuram lose their next match
  • Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC – At least draw their match, or hope Malappuram loses their match
  • Malappuram FC – If Kombans win or draw their match, Malappuram must win to qualify. Elsewhere, a draw would take them to the semis
  • Forca Kochi FC – Eliminated from the Super League Kerala
