Robson Robinho signs with Mohun Bagan Super Giant ahead of ACL 2 campaign.

Robson Robinho earlier played for Bashundhara Kings.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant have officially strengthened their attack with the signing of Brazilian winger Robson “Robinho” Azevedo da Silva. The 30-year-old arrives from São Paulo-based side EC Água Santa and is set to make his debut in the upcoming AFC Champions League 2025 group-stage clash against Turkmenistan outfit FK Ahal on September 16.
Robinho, who has played in Brazil’s Serie A, is no stranger to South Asian football. His standout spell with Bashundhara Kings in Bangladesh saw him lift seven trophies, scoring 64 goals and providing 49 assists in 97 matches. His prolific numbers established him as one of the most impactful foreign players in the region.
The Brazilian forward is expected to slot in as a key part of Jose Molina’s attack, offering creativity, finishing, and versatility across the frontline.
A proven name in South Asia
Robinho’s reputation in South Asia was cemented during his time with Bashundhara Kings, where he became a fan-favourite for his consistent goalscoring and ability to deliver in big matches. His four consecutive league titles under Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon made him a target for other regional clubs, including East Bengal, who explored a possible reunion with the winger earlier this year.
However, Mohun Bagan moved swiftly and identified Robinho as a direct replacement for Greg Stewart. His arrival will also give Molina tactical flexibility, allowing him to combine with Jason Cummings and Jamie Maclaren in the Mariners’ frontline.
Robinho’s message to fans
Speaking after his signing, Robinho expressed his excitement about joining the Green and Maroon brigade.
I already had an experience of facing Mohun Bagan once before. Since then, I have known that Mohun Bagan is India’s best and most successful club. I am sure the fans still remember how I played in that match. Now, wearing this Green and Maroon jersey, I hope to achieve the same kind of success. Just wait.”
“Last year, Mohun Bagan were crowned champions in both India’s best league and the most prestigious cup competition. In the last five years, no other Indian club has achieved what this team has managed. Most of the top foreign players play here, along with many of India’s national team stars. I am now joining them as a teammate to contribute my part. I want to help the club win more trophies and bring even greater success.”
He also highlighted his ambition to bring more silverware to the club, adding that the team’s goals come first:
“I love to score goals, and I love to assist as well. But above all, I love the team. So if you ask me about my personal goal, it is only to win many trophies for the club. Mohun Bagan are already at the peak of success, and if the club achieves even more, that will be the fulfillment of my own aim.”
Interestingly, the Brazilian also recalled one of his career highlights — playing against Neymar in the São Paulo league earlier this year, a memory he described as unforgettable.
“It was an honour for me to play against Neymar. Off the field, I do not have much connection with him, but earlier this year in February, during a São Paulo League match, I played against him. That day will always remain memorable for me — not only because I faced him, but also because I played against the best player of Brazil’s national team.”
