Indian football stars react to farmers' protest against agriculture bills
A number of domestic stars have come forward to express their opinion regarding the ongoing agitation.
India is witnessing a movement by farmers who are using their right to protest against farm reforms brought in by the Government of India. The farmers' protests have garnered global attention in the past few days and several Indian sports personalities, including footballers, have voiced their opinions.
Several people across the country have backed the farmers and called upon the government to heed to their call. However, many are on the other side of the spectrum, calling for an amicable solution to the whole movement. These Indian football stars took to social media and expressed what they think about the situation.
ATK Mohun Bagan’s Michael Soosairaj retweeted Rihanna’s tweet in favor of the farmers, quoting it as “Please support farmers”.
Chennaiyin FC’s Deepak Tangri also tweeted a message and a video in support of the farmers. “We must stand by OUR farmers. It is not their fight, it is OUR fight. Whether the world is watching or not, these are real issues faced by real people, the ones on whose backbones are (sic) great country is built. And it is our duty to use our platforms to lend our voice to them,” the tweet read.
His teammate Germanpreet Singh also released the same video with several hashtags in support of the movement. His tweet was retweeted by Vishal Kaith.
Farukh Chaudhary and Ayush Adhikari also supported Rihanna's tweet, calling for the farmers' voices to be heard.
India international and Chennaiyin FC midfielder Anirudh Thapa, on the other hand, has called for an amicable solution and quoted, “Let’s be democratic again."
