The competition is the oldest school football tournament.

The Subroto Cup International Football Tournament is a prestigious international inter-school football tournament that is held in New Delhi, India. The tournament held annually since 1960, is named after the Indian Air Force Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee.

It is the oldest national school football tournament in India and was instituted to promote and encourage the sport at the grassroots level in the country. Students from different countries across Asia participate in this tournament, making it one of the more noteworthy school-level football competitions.

On the fifth of August, the prestigious tournament kicked off its 63rd Edition with 111 teams competing for top honours across three categories, Junior Boys, Junior Girls and Sub-Junior Boys. 

With a total of 111 teams competing, the tournament will witness its highest-ever participation to date.

The U-17 Junior Girls will be the first ones to compete, and the final will be played on the 13th of August.

The Subroto Cup 2024 Junior Girls U-17 will be played at multiple venues across New Delhi. The grounds include.

  • Ambedkar Stadium
  • Tejas Football Ground
  • G.D. Goenka Global School
  • KIIT World School 

Format

A total of 34 teams divided into eight groups including teams from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be competing for honours in the Junior Girls category. The group winners from each group will qualify for the knockouts and the finals will be held on August 13th, 2024, at the Ambedkar Stadium.

The League matches will be played for 60 minutes across two halves of 30 minutes each, with a 10-minute half-time break. During knockouts, if the scores are level at full time, a 14-minute long extra period will also be played, with a minute-long break in between. 

The teams playing are going to be ranked based on points. For a win, a team will get three points, one point for a draw, and none for a loss. At the end of all the games, if two top teams (in a group) are tied on points, then the following criteria are to be followed.

  • Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams
  • Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams
  • Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams
  • Goal difference in all group matches
  • Goals scored in all group matches
  • Penalty shoot-out if only two teams are tied and they meet in the last round of the group
  • Disciplinary points (yellow card = 1 point, red card as a result of two yellow cards = 3 points, direct red card = 3 points, yellow card followed by direct red card = 4 points)
