It promises to be a cracking opener for both teams, who haven’t met each other since Goa’s unprecedented 3-0 win at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar.

The Gaurs are also the record winners of the competition, which is witnessing its 6th edition, with two titles in 2019 and 2025. Bengaluru FC, Odisha FC, and East Bengal FC have won it once each.

While Manolo Marquez is back with the Gaurs after his stint as head coach of the national team, Khalid Jamil’s appointment to the role prompted Jamshedpur to bring in Steven Dias as the interim coach for the Red Miners.

FC Goa in good rhythm after a narrow loss to Al Nassr

Manolo Marquez’s side recently played Saudi heavyweights Al Nassr in the AFC Champions League 2 (ACL 2) and produced a brave performance, losing 2-1. Most fans and critics were expecting a heavy loss, but it wasn’t to be so. The result is bound to boost team morale and leave players hungry for wins.

“We showed character and personality against a big team, but tomorrow is a different game altogether,” said Manolo Marquez before the opener.

The Gaurs will also know that to appear on the continental platform consistently, they will need to win the Super Cup, as it grants the winners a playoff spot for the ACL. Jamshedpur, however, will be driven by the same hope. Despite winning the Indian Super League Winners’ Shield in the 2021-22 season, they could not qualify for the AFC Champions League due to losing the qualifier against Mumbai City FC.
