Gokulam Kerala FC target to end Super Cup 2025-26 campaign with win against Mohammedan SC

Both teams have been eliminated from the 2025/26 AIFF Super Cup. 

Mohammedan SC and Gokulam Kerala FC are set to clash in the second-last match of Group C in the 2025/26 AIFF Super Cup to determine who finishes last but second in the group.

Two sides with an intense rivalry from their I-League days will square off at the GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim at 4:30 PM IST to end their campaign on a high note.

The Stakes:

Gokulam Kerala FC:

A team with a new coach and five foreigners, better things were expected from the Malabarians in the ongoing Super Cup campaign. However, their bad form from the 2025 IFA Shield persisted here, with two consecutive defeats to Bengaluru FC and Punjab FC.

It was not the losses that were the most important. It makes sense for I-League teams to lose when they play ISL teams. However, considering the additions they made, at least a goal, even without a favorable outcome, was anticipated from the club, given their 3-0 and 4-0 losses.

The Malabarians will be dissatisfied with their team’s performance so far this season. Both the supporters and the players would like to end this disastrous campaign with a victory over a weakened Mohammedan team.

Mohammedan SC:

Although the Mohammedan SC lost two straight matches, their circumstances are much different. Mehrajuddin Wadoo is fighting with a group of young Indian players who have less first-team experience due to pay concerns, transfer bans, and uncertainty about the club’s future.

Although every club enters a cup competition with the intention of winning, Wadoo stated that they will do everything in their power to emerge from the tournament with favorable outcomes. But he emphasized that for these young players, it’s primarily an opportunity to gather experience.

Mohammedan needs to draw against Gokulam Kerala to finish third in the group due to their superior goal difference. However, facing a full-strength Gokulam side will not prove to be straightforward.

Gokulam Kerala – Alfred Planas

Gokulam Kerala has been struggling for goals in attack, and they are hoping that their two Spanish strikers, Alfred Planas and Juan Carlos Rico Azorin, can score this time around. Planas, who is a winger by trade, has played forward thus far this season.

Coach Jose Hevia will rely heavily on Planas for his creativity, coordination skills with other attacking players, and his ability to score goals. Mohammedan is a far less challenging team compared with Bengaluru and Punjab, and Alfred will want to begin his goal-scoring streak in India.

Mohammedan SC – Sajad Hussain Parray

Sajad is one of the few players in this squad with first-team experience from the senior team. He has prior first-team experience with Hyderabad FC and Mohammedan SC in the Indian Super League.

With only a tie required to avoid finishing last in the league, Mohammedan must keep things tight at the back and not concede any goals. This is when Sajad’s experience and leadership talents will be tested, and he must organize his defense!
