Calicut FC defeated Forca Kochi in an exciting Super League Kerala final.
In a thrilling finale that delivered on every promise of excitement and skill, Calicut FC emerged victorious over Forca Kochi FC to lift the Super League Kerala trophy at EMS Corporation Stadium. The packed stadium, filled with passionate fans as early as 4 p.m., bore witness to Calicut FC’s decisive 2-1 win, securing them the coveted title and a one-crore prize.
The evening commenced with a grand closing ceremony, where around 50 performers, including acclaimed artists Steven Samuel, Avirbhav, and Deepthi Suresh, entertained the crowd, setting an electric tone for the night. Kerala Football Association (KFA) President Navas Meeran honored former Santosh Trophy and ISL players for their contributions to Indian football, inspiring the young crowd to carry forward the region’s footballing legacy.
Stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Basil Joseph were also present, adding glamour and cheering alongside fans for a memorable final.
Calicut FC took control from the start, demonstrating their game plan with a high press and precise passing that left Forca Kochi struggling for possession. Just 15 minutes into the game, Calicut’s Thoi Singh put his team ahead with a clinical finish off a well-placed cross from Calicut’s star striker, Kervens Belfort.
This early goal fueled the roaring crowd and put Kochi on the back foot, as they found it difficult to break Calicut’s well-organized defense. Kochi’s key striker, Dorielton, who had been a consistent threat in the box, was unable to capitalize on his opportunities, leaving Calicut with a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Determined to equalize, Forca Kochi came out with renewed energy in the second half. Head coach Mario Lemos made strategic substitutions to bring fresh legs and attacking impetus to his side.
However, Calicut’s disciplined organization kept Kochi at bay, and in the 71st minute, Kervens Belfort delivered the game-defining moment. Trapping the ball on his chest before unleashing a powerful volley, Belfort’s strike found the back of the net, igniting an eruption of celebration among Calicut supporters that echoed through the stadium.
Kochi’s star midfielder Raphael Augusto showcased skillful playmaking, creating opportunities and leading Kochi’s push for a goal. The persistence paid off in the dying moments of the match, when Dorielton, the league’s golden boot winner, finally scored in the 90+4 minute, giving Kochi a sliver of hope. Yet, time was not on their side, and Calicut held firm to secure a historic victory.
The final whistle confirmed Calicut FC as the champions of Super League Kerala, and they lifted the trophy amid joyous celebrations from fans and teammates. In addition to the title, Calicut FC was awarded a one-crore prize, while Forca Kochi received fifty lakhs as the league’s runners-up.
The Super League Kerala final proved to be a spectacular event, not only highlighting the skill and resilience of Kerala’s footballing talent but also underscoring the passionate community that surrounds the sport. With such a successful season, the league has set a high bar, promising an exciting future for football in Kerala.
