Indian football team’s dreadful 2-1 loss to lower-ranked Singapore in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers left fans devastated and demanding accountability from the players, management, and head coach Khalid Jamil after the team dominated the first 40 minutes and missed numerous easy opportunities.

On a night filled with anguish and lost opportunities, India’s aspirations of making it to the AFC Asian Cup 2027 came crumbling down at the Fatorda Stadium. Lallianzuala Chhangte gave the Blue Tigers the lead within the first fifteen minutes, giving them an early appearance of dominance. However, India’s carelessness in front of goal proved costly despite multiple excellent chances to double the lead.

Singapore completed a surprising comeback by taking advantage of defensive breakdowns and scoring twice through Song Ui-young, once before halftime and again early in the second half. India failed to equalise despite late pressure and substitutions. India’s Asian campaign ended bitterly when the final whistle blew, confirming their elimination.

Fans, left angered demand major changes

Fans have expressed their disappointment and anger on social media as a result of the loss to a team ranked lower than Indian Football Team. The outcome has been deemed “unacceptable” and “a new low” for the national team by supporters, who are calling for accountability from the players, coaching staff, and federation.

The team’s poor finishing, tactical strategy, and lack of composure under pressure were criticized by many, while others called for urgent accountability from the management and head coach, Khalid Jamil.

No competitive football for the senior team until November 2027

For the next three years, until the next qualifying round starts in 2027, the Indian Football Team (Senior Men’s) idea is all but dead. The so-called senior and seasoned players who have repeatedly fallen short on the big stage are out of a job.

It’s also time for accountability; Kalyan Chaubey, the Logistics Unit, the National Team Department, the technical staff, and everyone else involved in this downhill spiral since 2023 need to take back the blame and resign.

This is more than just a loss; it’s a total breakdown of Indian football’s leadership, structure, and vision, as the team went from being one victory away from Round 3 of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers to now failing to qualify for an Asian Cup that has grown to 24 teams.
