India vs Singapore Ratings: Chhangte wonder goal; Subhasish Bose, Rahul Bheke dreadful

India has been knocked out of the AFC Asian Cup Qualification race

The Singapore National Football team emerged victorious 2-1 against a higher-ranked Indian National Football team in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers Group stage clash on the 14th of October, 2025. The loss means that the Blue Tigers are now officially out of contention for a spot in the AFC Asian Cup 2027.

The match began with the Blue Tigers dictating the proceedings as they consistently pressed, piled pressure upon the opponents, and forced errors from the visitors.

In the 13th minute, Chhangte opened the accounts for India off a stunning shot outside the box. Later, the Indian players attacked back-to-back, but the resilient Singapore defence ensured that the hosts did not score further.

In the dying minutes of the first half, Singapore equalised the scoreline with the services of Young. This, however, dropped the morale of the Indian Football Team, and they yet again conceded a goal in the second half off Young, yet again, leading to India being knocked out of their AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign.

India Player Ratings

Here are the India Player Ratings vs Singapore

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu – 5

Gurpreet did not have to do much till the 40th minute of the match as Singapore were more or less defensively focused to somehow defend the back-to-back attacks made by the Blue Tigers.

The game was so one-sided that the keeper did not even have to touch the ball apart from some routine clearances and playing out from the back.

However, in the final minutes of the game, he had to concede the equaliser and did not have much to do to prevent the goal from being scored.

In the second half, he yet again was a spectator when Singapore scored their second, as the goal arose from a defensive mistake. Later, he made some brilliant saves to keep India alive, but the struggle to score meant that he had to be on the losing side.

Subhasish Bose – 3

India vs Singapore Ratings: Chhangte wonder goal; Subhasish Bose, Rahul Bheke dreadful

Subhasish was sloppy and shaky in the defence as he lacked awareness and failed to maintain the offside line properly and mark the opponent players precisely. In the second half, the full back ventured higher up the pitch to make some overlapping runs and support the winger.

This, however, created some huge space in the backline, which was capitalised well and punished by the opponents by scoring the second goal. Failed to track the opponents, did not control the ball properly and had a completely average performance.

Anwar Ali – 5.5

Anwar had an average performance in the match, with some good passing and ball control. The centre-back made some good interceptions and even won some duels with the opponents.

But when things mattered the most, he failed to properly defend the opponents, which paved the way for the opponents to comfortably score and grab the three points.

Rahul Bheke – 4

Rahul Bheke did not have the best hour on the pitch as he was seen consistently struggling to cope with the pace of the Singapore players. Lacked decision-making in the final third, which further added pressure to the backline.

Was unable to maintain discipline and a proper defensive structure, which ultimately backfired on the men in blue. Left spaces, cheaply gifted possession to the opponents and failed to properly mark them, which ultimately led to the opponents scoring.

Valpuia – 6

Though the defender did not have much to do for the vast majority of the first half, he was constantly challenged in the second half with the likes of Fandi, Kweh and Young, where he defended them decently.

When Singapore scored the second goal, it somehow felt like Apuia lacked the intensity as he approached the ball in a snail-paced manner, ultimately leading to the opponent scoring.

Liston Colaco – 4

Liston was very creative and was very lively in the initial minutes of the game and sparking the early attacking initiatives of the Blue Tigers. The winger switched between the wings and penetrated into the 18-yard box with his poetry-like moves.

In the 27th minute, Liston almost came close to scoring and doubling the advantage for India, but to his dismay, his shot was stopped at the goal line by Baharudin. Later, the player lacked decision-making and demonstrated an average performance and could have done way better.

Nikhil Prabhu – 5.5

Nihil was a central figure in the midfield and did excellently to cancel out the attacking initiatives made by the Singapore football team. The Punjab FC captain had a good game, reading and positioning and was able to resist the opponents from progressing further towards the Indian goal. Surprisingly, the player was subbed off early in the first half.

Apuia – 6

Apuia displayed a beautiful technique and intercepted the ball from the opponents in the midfield to regain possession and shift the momentum back to India. However, he was unable to test the keeper, as most of his shots were overhit and skied over the goal. Played till the last minute and displayed a positive intent throughout.

Lallianzuala Chhangte – 7

Chhangte was a potent threat in the attacking half as he aggressively pressed the opponents to win the ball and pile pressure upon the visitors.

In the 13th minute, when the Blue Tigers won a loose ball from the Lions, Chhangte had the presence of mind and was brave enough to take a stunner from distance, breaching the net and opening the scoring account for India.

The 28-year-old carried the ball well and made some accelerated dribbles and stepovers to make a mockery out of Najeeb. Even after leading, Chhangte linked up well with his teammates to create some good combination plays on the offensive end. Played his heart out throughout the match and was possibly one of India’s brightest sparks of the game.

Mahesh Singh – 5.5

Mahesh had a topsy-turvy performance as his performance kept fluctuating in consistent intervals. For a good proportion of the first half, he made some on and off the ball movements, but for the remaining minutes, he was rarely involved in the game.

In a golden opportunity to double the lead, Sunil Chhetri set up a beautiful ball to Mahesh within the 10-yard range, and to his disappointment, the powerful shot taken by the player was somehow blocked by the keeper, Mahbud.

Sunil Chhetri – 4

Chhetri, in the early minutes, was at the right place at the right time whenever the Blue Tigers required his presence. The striker was essentially the fox in the box and lurked inside the opponent’s penalty box to set up the ball to his teammates and even test his luck at the goal to create confusion in the Singapore defensive third.

However, Chhetri had chances where he could have tapped in the ball and attempted a shot on target, but ultimately, he passed the ball to his teammates, only to disappoint. As the game progressed and the opponents took the lead, his impact remained relatively minimal, and he was subbed off.

Substitutes

Sahal Abdul Samad – 5

Sahal came into the match in the second half and quickly reignited the lost energy in the Indian team.

Farukh Choudhary – 3

Farukh did not have any vital involvements for India, throughout the minutes played.

Udanta Singh – 5

Rose above the defender and efficiently headed a cross from the left wing in the 82nd minute, which missed the goal by inches. Had some good footwork and created some last-minute trouble for Singapore.

Rahim Ali – 5

Rahim Ali had some good chances to bolster the counterattacks of India. But the lack of pace and support gave the opponents ample time to mitigate the efforts of India.

Brandon Fernandes – 3.5

Brandon had a good opportunity to find the equaliser in the 90th minute of the game. However, the player completely misjudged the ball, and the shot went nowhere near the target.
