India slip down five places in FIFA World Rankings after Hong Kong loss

India played out a draw and loss in the June international FIFA Window.
The Indian Football team are likely to further drop down the FIFA World Rankings ladder following their recent 1-0 loss to Hong Kong in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier. The Blue Tigers went down to a 1-0 defeat after conceding a stoppage-time penalty, which was converted by Stefan Pereira to help Ashley Westwood’s side take up a top-two position in the Asian Cup qualification group.
Manolo Marquez’s side had a horrible June (2025) international window as they also lost the game against Thailand before their crushing defeat to the Hong Kong side. Well, these back-to-back losses are likely to negatively impact India’s current position in the FIFA World Rankings.
India drop five rankings after Hong Kong
India are currently placed in the 128th position in the FIFA World Rankings. However, they are going to be losing 14.77 coefficient points, which will cause an impact on their place in the World Rankings. The Blue Tigers are estimated to drop down five places and be placed in the 133rd position once FIFA decides to update their rankings soon.
This would mean that India would be entering their worst position in the FIFA rankings since back in March 2017, when they were last placed in the 132nd position in the rankings.
It’ll be the first time in nine years that India will be entering the bracket of 130-140 in the FIFA World Rankings. also marking their third consecutive drop in positions in the FIFA World Rankings since December 2024.
Hong Kong, on the other hand, are going to be picking up 14.77 points and is likely to move into the 149th position in the FIFA World Rankings following their success against India. The Blue Tigers are currently in the no.23 place among AFC (Asian Football Confederation) teams in the FIFA World Rankings, but they might end up being overtaken by Malaysia in the rankings and drop down to 24th place among the best AFC teams.
The Indian football team have failed to win their last three competitive matches, not even scoring a single goal in the process. They are currently scheduled to return to action on 9 October 2025 when they face off against Singapore in their next AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualification game.
