There are some new faces and some players have been recalled.
The Indian senior men‘s team head coach Manolo Márquez, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, announced 26 probables for the FIFA International Friendly against Malaysia to be played on November 18 at the GMC Balayogi Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.
The list of players includes many surprises. Some players, like Jithin MS and Vibin Mohanan, have been rewarded for their excellent performances in the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL).
Márquez, who took over as head coach earlier this year, has been focusing on building a balanced squad, blending experience with young talent, and has drawn heavily from the Indian Super League’s standout performers for this lineup.
Others, like Anirudh Thapa, are making a comeback after being dropped against Vietnam. The Indian football team will look to end its winless campaign and grab a victory against Malaysia. The squad announcement reflects Márquez’s intent to experiment with fresh faces while relying on seasoned players for stability.
This match against Malaysia will be a litmus test for Márquez’s strategies, as he aims to identify the right combinations and tactics.
Given Malaysia’s improved form and physical play, India’s defense will need to remain solid, while the midfield and forward lines should look to exploit any gaps
This fixture, part of India’s preparation, offers a crucial opportunity for Marquez to assess his players’ form and combinations ahead of the competitive matches.
The squad selection reflects a balance of seasoned internationals and emerging talents. Sandesh Jhingan making a comeback will strengthen the defence and will bring more stability to the squad.
The team will assemble in Hyderabad for the training camp on November 11.
