Indian Football Team will play Thailand in June FIFA International Window.

Indian Football Team will be preparing for their next 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifier with a friendly game against Thailand on June 4, 2025. This will act as a warm-up clash for both teams before their next qualifier clash, with the Blue Tigers set to travel to face Hong Kong in their next match in the qualifiers.

With the Blue Tigers having had a shaky start to the qualifiers campaign with a draw against Bangladesh, they will be looking for a prolific international window in June. That starts with a win over Thailand, a team they have faced off against on quite a few occasions in the last few decades.

Indian Football Team have faced off against the War Elephants on 25 occasions in their history. Out of that, they have won seven games and lost on 11 occasions. But when it comes to the most recent encounter between these two sides, the Blue Tigers actually hold an advantage by being able to get the better of the War Elephants.

Indian Football Team played their second match of the Igor Stimac era against Thailand after being one of the invitees for the 2019 Kings Cup edition in the country. After suffering a 3-1 loss to Curacao in the first game, the Blue Tigers were adamant about getting a positive result for their coach against the hosts.

India began the game on the defensive, having to sit back and soak the early pressure from the hosts. Adil Khan was especially sturdy with his defensive work, making some key blocks to frustrate the hosts early on. It was India who took the lead in the 17th minute and Adil latched onto a rebound from a free kick and found a free Anirudh Thapa in the backpost, allowing him to tap into an empty net to make it 1-0!

The War Elephants were incensed by this and started pouring numbers forward in the hunt for an equaliser. They almost got their goal in the 21st minute as an acrobatic back-volley from captain Teerasil Dangda went into the back of the net, but he was judged to be in an offside position.

Khan made a terrific block after the half-hour mark to ruin a possible scoring opportunity for the hosts as well. Thailand almost equalised in the 35th minute when a header on goal was cleared off the line by Thapa’s impressive reaction. India had a big chance to double their lead towards the end of the half after Farukh Choudhary was sent through on goal, but failed to beat the goalkeeper.

Choudhary nearly scored his first goal for the Indian Football Team in the 50th minute as his powerful left-footed shot struck the post. Thailand had another effort thwarted 10 minutes later when Teerasil’s clever attempt on goal was blocked by Sandesh Jhingan. India were nearly gifted a goal in the 69th minute when a misplaced backpass ended up hitting the post before being cleared away.

Thailand midfielder Peeradol Chamrasamee had a huge chance to equalise in the 88th minute, but couldn’t divert a close-range header onto the goal. Amrinder Singh came up big in the 91st minute as he brilliantly saved Teerasil’s header to help preserve his clean sheet and seal the win for India. Solid performances from Thapa, Khan, Jhingan & co helped India get their second straight win over Thailand.

Indian Football Team look to get back to winning ways

For Manolo Marquez’s squad, their objective in their return to Thailand after a six-year gap is to secure a win. The Blue Tigers were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Bangladesh in the opening game of their AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier in their recent game, and look to head into the Hong Kong game with winning momentum behind them.

However, for the Indian Football Team to defeat Thailand (who are currently in 99th place in the FIFA Rankings), it’ll take a really sturdy effort from them.

The Blue Tigers need to maintain a really strong defensive shape to frustrate the hosts as they did in 2019. They’ll also need to be clinical in taking up their chances and converting opportunities clinically to get a big win.
