Top three performers of India U17 against Chinese Taipei U17 in AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers

The Blue Colts got their first win against Chinese Taipei.

The India U17 men’s national team has opened their qualification campaign with two contrasting matches. The draw against Palestine tested their defensive skills, while the 3–1 win over Chinese Taipei highlighted their ability to take control, adjust the momentum, and capitalise on key moments.

The win against Chinese Taipei lifted India to second place in the group with four points, level with Iran, who are the table-toppers of the group. The Blue Colts’ next test awaits on Friday, November 28, against Lebanon.

Together, these performances have shaped a promising start for the squad. Within this evolving picture, several players have displayed exceptional consistency and presence, emerging as key contributors across both games.

Here are the top three players from the match against Chinese Taipei in the AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

3. Shubham Poonia

Shubham Poonia delivered two well-rounded performances across India’s fixtures, proving that he is one of the most reliable presences on the defensive backline. Against both teams, he was alert, disciplined, and constantly shutting down attacks even before they could develop. His positioning was accurate, and his decision-making under pressure was precise as well.

But what truly set his performance apart was the goal he scored against Palestine. In a match where chances were scarce, Shubham Poonia scored a superb header, which was a moment that gave India a crucial advantage. He proved that, despite being a defender, he is a player capable of contributing in the final third when the situation calls for it.

2. Gunleiba Wangkheirakpam

Gunleiba Wangkheirakpam was one of India’s best performers in the game against Palestine as well as Chinese Taipei. His combination with Azalaan and Gangte has worked for the Blue Colts as they created several chances and kept the opposition on their toes constantly.

Gunleiba made some dangerous runs into the box that made the opposition crumble easily. Gunleiba also played a key role in India’s victory in the SAFF U17 Championship.

His attacking instincts have boosted India’s attacking strength. The 16-year-old has been an incredible playmaker for the Blue Colts in both games.

1. Dallalmuon Gangte

Dallalmuon Gangte operated as the core of India’s midfield in the draw against Palestine. In a cagey match with limited space and few clear openings, he was the one consistently driving India forward. His ability to create chances under pressure, link up play, and maintain the tempo ensured that India stayed competitive throughout the game.

And his standout performance was against Chinese Taipei, where Gangte’s hat-trick showed the complete range of his attacking instincts. Each goal reflected a different aspect of his skills: intelligent positioning, quick reflexes, and composed finishing.

He read the game superbly, arrived in the right areas at the right moments, and took full command of the final third as a true leader.
